Looking forward to this one. I can always go for some more Nobody.

I got an advanced copy of Tales #60 for reviewing purposes the other day.

Looking foward to it. I love it when Tales takes place during or after Volume 4. There's still a lot of untapped potential in the latter day Turtles.

About time we heard about this issue coming out. I wonder if we'll still get issue 61 this month though. Probably not.

A fun little issue... I liked it. I like the idea of going back to older plot lines, they should keep doing this! Lawson's art is very under rated!

Ah... it was the ole "Hero wasn't dead, he was just in suspended animation for years!" thing.... I really felt sorry for Casey....but at least we know how he was shortly after April left. Poor Raph is really getting tired of being refered to as various Kaiju. :lol:

Soo.. how many of ya are gonna paint your Nobody figs white now?

Got mine today. It was nothing special, drunk Casey was funny sometimes but normally lame. Anyone notice that Raph wasn't Gamera on the cover? lol

Best thing about it was that Mike Hawthorne pinup.

Got it today. The Casey/Raph interaction stole the show, and the Nobody stuff just felt a little tacked on. Like they were looking for a way to bring the character back for no other reason than to do so. Oh well.

There were some awkwardly placed thought balloons, which is weird for Berger's writing. Does Mirage have a "There must be dialogue in every panel" rule now? DARPA scenes were also cheesey in a bad way.

So, A for Volume 4 era Raph and Casey, C for everything else.

And hey, hey, Lawson's pencil art looks really good. I am firmly in the "more tones" camp now.

I was curious about that too actually. Why couldn't he be Gamera Raph on the cover?

Because there'd be a massive WTF factor for those on the outside. We'd know, but people not currently into TMNT would look at it and go "What the hell? Where are the Turtles?"

I understand the logic behind it and probably woulda made the same choice but still, not every single issue of tales has a turtle on the cover.

I was completely pissed off at the complete character alteration of Nobody. He's not that dark, gritty vigilante at all anymore. He's pretty much just the comic's version of the Silver Sentry now. Big thumbs down for me on that move.

And I didn't exactly like the dialogue in this story. Story wasn't that great either. Honestly, I didn't like this issue much.

The story itself was fun but I put me in the camp that would have preferred Nobody remain or be turned back in a regular vigilante at the end.

If there going to be messing with his personality and lighten him up I actualy think it would be better to turn him into a parody of the 60's Batman seeing as he was essentialy a homage/parody/rip off of the grittier version of Batman to begin with.

That being said Dan Berger seems to set things up or at least leave his stories open to interesting followups. Like his two Leatherhead Tales issues and the Hamato Hana storyline, even #50 is getting a followup. if Tales survives I wouldn't be suprised if we get further development in regards to Nobody's situation.

There's something to be said for the storytelling potential of setting Tales in and around Volume 4.

With the current status quo you can put the chacters in pretty much any setting without having to contrive ridiculous ways to get them there. All that and they can still pull back and tell down to earth stories set in some of the dingier parts of Manhattan.

There's also a lot of mileage that you can get exploring how the turtles react to now being able to move around in public with more freedom or the prejudice they would face from everyday people. Things that Volume 4 has alluded to but not focused on.

I think Tales has done a decent job capitalising on the former but when it comes to the latter it hasn't really done much at all. Even the Mike mini which was supposed focus on the fallout from the Utrom first contact just glossed over it which is sad seeing as Mike is the one turtle that's always wanted to fit into human society..instead we got a fun but pointless adventure.

It strikes me that of the issues set during Volume 4 quite a few don't need to be. "Paris Nocturne" could've been set anytime, apart from the date it certainly reads like a story set before the Utrom's landing. Other than Raph's tatoo and a mention on Xihad so does "What Wolves Wear". Even "Rocks" which had a cool moment with the turtles and the human passers by and the discussion on displaying their weapons but take that out and you wouldn't even know it was supposed to be modern turtles.

I feel the same about this issue, there's no point in setting it in the current continuity. You could have had normal Raph and Casey just hanging out to begin with and the story would've been the same.

The only reason I can think of to set a Nobody story during volume 4 would be to have April meet Nobody and have the encounter lead or give strong indications why she would become the new Nobody in the main book. While that was alluded to in this issue again it was glossed over.

Ditto. I was really disappointed.

Nobody was supposed to be a friend of Turtles and company. They find out he's been brought back to life, and one of them wants to fight him, the other wants to abandon him. Neither seems really give a crap that their friend has been resurrected. Nor bring it up with the other turtles.

I was really looking forward to it, but this was a let down. Sorry Dan, I usually love your issues.

I loved it. Seriously, the art was great, and to me it gave off a real 'silver age' comic feel. Which I dig. I the flashback in pencils was great, methoughts.

And no offense to Tristan, but I actually prefered this issue to Tales 61, which I was quite surprised about. That's not to say that I didn't love said issue, I did, I just prefered this one.

I completely agree. There's room for a lot of poignancy with the "Turtles as members of society" aspect, and it's barely been touched upon. I really wouldn't mind seeing an entire volume focus on sixty-something Turtles living in this strange new world.

I've been away for a bit and a bit out of the loop so I'm just now catching up to things.
I thought this issue was pretty decent, but now I have to wonder when making a custom action figure of Nobody should I go for the white look or gray/black look.

I liked that the star alien was in this issue, the one thing I was wondering though was what was up with the one darpa guys eyes?

Over all decent issue, not one of my faves but not one I'd toss aside either.
