Turtles paying for Pizza
I read something on Internet Movie Database about some of the goofs from the first ninja turtles movie. More errors are typed but one caught my eye:
Plot Holes: Where do the Ninja Turtles get the money to order pizza? In the original 1990 movie, Michaelangelo hands the pizza guy a $10. Where did the $10 bill come from--I can understand it fell into the sewers. Anyways, thought i'd bring up this topic to share and bring back memories. |
private Swiss bank account?.. also, what the heck is Mikey eating in this scene?
|
That's not a plot hole. I mean, you only see them paying for pizza once in the whole film... even when you factor in inflation 10 bucks wasn't worth that much in 1990, they could have easily found it.

If he's any thing like me, he just likes to chew on stuff. A pen won't last two minutes with me.

When I was 13 and watching the OT, I explained this off as the Turtles doing odd jobs at night to obtain money. What kind of odd jobs, and how they got them, I do not know- I was so young back then.
Nowadays, I think it is more likely that they have found money in the sewers. Or pawned things off. Or in select universes, Hamato Yoshi left money behind. |

I don't really fancy the idea of the Turtles having jobs. Reminds me of one of the complaints Nostalgia Critic had against the 2007 movie in his review. "Wait, the Turtles have JOBS? I guess they have to get their pizza somehow...but were they like STEALING before?" :tlol:

This issue isn't limited to just the first movie, but to ANY turtle continuity. They have a lot of the conveniences and luxuries of home - furniture, tv, comic books, kitchenware, etc. - as well as a need for food. How do they pay for it all in ANY universe? Here's my theories:
- Jobs, like any other normal human being. Perhaps they wear their famed trenchcoats. Or maybe they do like Donatello did in the third movie and work from home (Seriously... I've seen "work from home" fliers posted everywhere; it's not like it'd be hard to do). Do they need a bank account for that to work, though? Hmmm... perhaps they opened up a... shell account! *Rimshot* Sorry, couldn't resist. - Pawning stuff. It's not unrealistic to imagine Donatello searching through a garbage dump, finding something useful, repairing it, and selling it good-as-new. Who knows? Splinter might count antiquing as one of his hobbies. - Recycling. Sure, it's only a handful of change for every can you bring back, but can you imagine how many cans, bottles, and other recyclable garbage is found around New York City? |
Well... In the original series episode where Splinter left them for a time. Donatello had a job at a fix it shop, Michelangelo had a cooking show, and Raphael had the party clown service.
Plus, they seemed to win alot of contests (like the trip around the world). Maybe they played alot of lotto? |

I always thought they took it from the crooks they beat up. And after meeting April, I always thought she gave them money.

The recycling and refurbishing of garbage, though...very clever! :D Of course Donatello would be able to fix a lot of discarded items up and resell them! Too bad the idea wasn't brought up in the old cartoon-that would have been perfect. |
A lot of their furniture and crap I believe that it comes from dumpster diving. Money issues... now that's another story. Some of it might get washed down the drain, but I kinda believe in the RPG approach. Beat enemies, steal their money and valuables.
|
April gave them money and goodies AFTER they met her. BUT what about before meeting her. They had to get the money from somewhere.
Hence my explanation about "odd jobs" back then. |
Ha ha, Master Splinter probably received inheritance from his owner probably. (or his parents when they transformed him from human to a rat).
