Umm... never heard of this. What's the deal?

DrSpengler 01-07-2010 03:44 PM

Ya know, I own a copy of that (the B cover) but I've never read it...

ToTheNines 01-07-2010 03:49 PM

Lol, I think I might buy it soon. Kinda odd that it was published in 96, right before turtles went bye-bye for a while.

I have that too. I think I have two copies of it actually. I know I have the 1A cover for sure. The story is weird. It's Leo and Raph going into another dimension with Creed or something like that. If I remember the art was cool.

I have two copies too. Accidentally bought a second because of the different cover. Will sell one to you if you like.

I have it. It's fun enough book but it makes no concessions for any reader who doesn't follow Creed comic so the details are quite confusing. TMNT-wise it's not really that important, the story goes something like this...

The main character is a kid who has li'l talking frog as a pal (or at least something that takes the form of a frog) the two of them are hanging out in an antique store and find a weird crystal. Walking home at night the frog is explaining the purpose of the crystal when a street gang attack them...cue the TMNT.

As they size off against each other the crystal activates and sucks Creed, Frog, Raph, Leo and the head gang guy into a dream world. It also turns the gang leader into a talking daisy. Back in the real world Mike and Don have returned to the sewer lair and a very unique looking Splinter senses that it'll all work out. In the dream world Creed, Raph and Leo have a bloody fight with a monster before Raph and Leo get sucked back to earth were they return to the sewers.

It's nice art for the turtles specificaly, kinda like a cross between Dan Berger and Eric Talbot's current style and the vibe of the TMNT on Earth is very vol. 1 #1. Also Creed narrates the fight against the monster which seems slightly like another throwback to #1.

Soooo like, did this happen because Lightning comics is related to Image in some way... or was it Pete's idea?

TMNT wasn't even being published by Image when TMNT/Creed came out. I would assume Trent Kaniuga was a Mirage TMNT fan and approached Kevin/Pete about a crossover and they said "Yeah."

Laird did do one of the variant covers. In fact at a convention once, I ran into the original in a stack of Trent Kaniuga's art. I said "how much?" and he said "whoa..how did that get in there? It's not for sale!" I wonder if that piece is still in his possesion.
