What was your worst TMNT-related experience?

Any interesting stories out there? Anybody ever give you a hard time for wearing a Ninja Turtle t-shirt? Or maybe for some of you it was just watching Venus for the first time?

My worst experience is merchandise related. I owned the Playmates Leo and Mikey statues for a few months now, and they had been sitting on my shelf for about two months. A shelf I barely have anything else on, and a shelf I barely touch. I went to bed at 11:00pm one night, and was woken at 3:33am(i remember) when the shelf gave out and came crashing down, destroying the statues in the process. 500 bucks out the window. I punched the **** out of my matress and went back to sleep a very angry, bitter person.

I'm good now though :) I found someone selling all 4 unopened on Ebay, so I picked them up. Good stuff :)

I was often picked at school for liking ninja turtles when it was no longer popular among my class. ended up in a couple of fights over it

Hmm, this is a hard one...

Well, in 2001 I was 10 years old and had gotten rid of pretty much all of my Turtles sh*t. I don't remember what I was into at the time (probably Gundam Wing, or NBA basketball) but for some reason I got bored one day and decided to watch the old cartoons mom had recorded for me. I don't remember what all I had other than Street Sharks, but the TMNT episodes sure stood out.

Any ways, it turned out that I had the first movie recorded and I was loving it even though I hadn't even given TMNT a passing thought in years. So right when Shredder gets his bad-ass full introduction... the fuc*ing tape jumps to some day time talk show. It wasn't even Oprah, just some ****** show I can't even remember.

So mom inadvertently delayed my TMNT obsession, if only by two years lol.

Why on earth would he tape the news? That seems really strange to me, I don't know why hahaha, like one would need to remember what happened in the news a few days ago or a year from now... hahaha I can understand like a special moment or a story they were in??

BoggleKng 02-19-2010 09:37 PM

He taped it cause it was on when we ate dinner as I recall and he never stayed up for the late news..

This story still really bothers me to this day...

Back in 1991 the Coming Out of Their Shells Tour was coming to town and I *REALLY* wanted to go. Unfortunately, my family didn't have much money and so we couldn't afford to go... much sadness, but the kind of thing I was used to. However, there was a local kids' radio station that constantly gave away prizes and I had a knack for winning. One night, the week before the show would be in town, I'm listening and OMG, they're giving away tickets to a private pizza party at a Pizza Hut where Michaelangelo from the tour would be appearing. Not only that, but at the party they would be giving away tickets to see the show that coming Sunday!! I mean, seriously - OMG! The contest was to be the first caller to call in with the correct answer to the question, "What is Spider-Man's real name?" I freaked out, because I didn't know the answer (I know, I lose tons of geek points on that one). I yelled to my mom and asked her and by some miracle she tells me Peter Parker. So I call and get through and OMG, I WIN! Winning that contest probably beat out all of my previous Christmases and Birthdays combined at that point in my life. UNTIL!

So the pizza party was going to be on that Thursday night. I'm going back and forth with the radio guy on the phone and my mom and my mom is telling me that we CAN'T GO because Thursday is her BOWLING NIGHT. She proceeds to get on the phone with the radio guy and GIVE UP the prize because she can't miss bowling night. I was devastated and at the same time pissed off that she couldn't give up ONE bowling night for something that was REALLY important to me. We always worked around her bowling night and had for years, was it really that much to ask to miss this one? Was there really no alternative way to get us to freakin' Pizza Hut? (My dad wasn't an option, because he worked nights, but I still had grandparents and aunts.) Thanks a lot, mom. :tcry:

So, yeah, still a bit bitter about that one.

TMNT has usually been good experiences for me. I have had some awkward times with them though. Both my bad experiences involved the movies and drugs.

The first was when I was in high school. My friend came over high as kite after taking some E and brought two friends with her. They wanted to see Turtles 2 and knew I had it. I didn't even know the other two people. One guy fell asleep and drooled all over my pillow. The other guy kept trying to grab my friends boobs, which was hilarious because she's a full blown lesbian and quite open about it. So I had 3 high people wrestling for space on my twin sized mattress getting emotionally invested in Turtles 2. The one guy almost pissed himself when Shredder came from under the dock.

The second time was a few years ago. I was visiting a friend of mine and he wanted to see TMNT. This would have been the 4th time I'd see it but I said "**** it why not?". Another friend was with us as well and we were the only 3 in the theater. So my other friend runs a few rows away from us and starts smoking pot in the top of the theater. This old guy walks in while he's doing it and sits down. He sits there for a few minutes and then gets up and walks out after saying "My what is that smell?". We thought we were going to get kicked out. It was neat watching the movie with just friends in a huge place like that though.

Maybe not horrible experiences, kinda funny, but the worst I got. I probably have some from when I was a kid but I don't remember off the top of my head. No one ever picked on me for liking turtles I had several friends who did and we stuck together.

Lordmylar06 02-20-2010 01:22 AM

Hang tight, I might have a doozy of a "worst experience" in the near future I think.
But for right now, I think the worst was when I was reading the Archie series, and expecting the next issue to NOT be "The Early Years" or "Year of the Turtle". I was ultra pissed to not see Clarrain and Allan in the credits as well.

Took me a while to think of it.

I was fairly young, maybe 10 or 11. I was a bad kid. Used to break alot of stuff out of spite, wyle out on people etc. My mom had really pissed me off about something, I don't recall what... but I know that I took a hammer to her dinner plate, with food on it. Anyhow, I'm on the toilet hours later, she busts in with my next mutation elite gaurd figure & a hedge cutter. I watched his decaptiation. It was HORRIBLE. I'm still pissed to this day as hes fairly irreplacable. Not to mention, from the shows debut to that point on, he was my favorite figure. I still give her **** about it when the occurance crosses my mind. I'm actually getting aggravated right now. Anyone have a loose next mutation elite gaurd they'd wanna sell? Lol.... Not laughing...

I ought to go smash more dinners.

Decline

The general interest decline in the world in the mid 1990's. 1987 cartoon and Archie comics over, no more movies...

Heh, guess that's what you get for being a little s**te. :P

Don't think i've got any, perhaps losing out on auctions on ebay for original art? Oh, I know - I used to have so much neat stuff, from metre high tin buckets, to the blimp, and cards and coin collections and so much more stuff. When my parents split up, me and my sister took most of our stuff to live with our mum, but left behind alot of things that we couldn't manage in the initial move, thinking it safe with my dad. Anyway, my dad moved out of the place without letting us know, leaving behind a bunch of our stuff and I have no idea what happened to any of it. Probably went to the council, as it was a rented property. It wasn't just TMNT stuff, there was a ton of books, comics, (hell I had a heap of 2000ADs, Beanos, Dandys, Hero Turtle UK comics) baby toys, clothes. (like I said, we did get ALOT of our things, but not all). Just one of the reasons I dislike my father as a person...

Well I hoped you kicked the crap out of them with that jujitsu you learned from our good friends the Turtles. My worst experience - when I was 12 or 13, my mom forced me to give away ALL of my toys to Goodwill - Turtles, Transformers, and He-Man. I mean it wasn't like she paid for it! My dad was the one who bought me toys, even though he was working at Denny's and Taco Bell (we immigrated to the U.S. from Eastern Europe and this was his first job in the U.S. and he barely understood English). So yeah, my mom thought I shouldn't have the toys because I had the luxury of food, a bed, and clothes (which were bought at Goodwill). The toys probably signified that my dad cared for my upbringing, so my mom felt threatened by it (she made me give them away after they divorced).

Candy Kappa 02-20-2010 08:23 PM

oh i did, I was notable bigger than most in my class and i had quite a temper as a kid.

But I never used my martial arts training on anyone in any scenarios I've been in, expect for one. But he was a drunk karate practitioner that deserved some whooping

unforgivable. I think you need to put your mother in a home when she gets old enough.

I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds really bad.

Sacrifices are an important part in every relationship. It's very important that each person in a family group do their part to ensure that the rest get to do what he/she wants or needs to, and that way everyone's happy.

We shouldn't forget this kind of negative experiences with our fathers, because if we do, it's very likely that we repeat them with our own children in the future.

My worst experience is a bunch of elitist nerds trying to convince people that their ideal visions of the Turtles are the only ones that should be allowed to exist.
