Why did Shredder/Krang always go to NYC to take over the world?

Ignoring the, "its just a cartoon," angle, Shredder/Krang know the Turtles live in NYC. The dimensional portal could transport Shredder to any place on Earth.

So why do they keep planning all their evil schemes in NYC, when instead they could go to Britian, South America, Australia, Asia, or anywhere else in the world and plan their evil world domination schemes there instead?

The Turtles would have no clue what they're doing, and it would take them awhile to fly their blimp over to where they are.

Thoughts?

They tried going to South Dakota once, but the Turtles still stopped them. And then all those European episodes. It doesn't matter where they go, the Turtles are gonna stop them. I'd guess sticking to New York most of the time would just be more convenient.

I can not believe you made this thread lol

Shredder and the turtles also went to Niagra Falls in Return of the Technodrome. And what about the punk frogs? They're from Florida. The turtles battled Shredder there one time.

I was actually surprised they never went to Japan. Of course there was The Legend of Koji but they never went there in the present.

Well isn't NY kinda like the financial epicenter of America? The UN, the statue of liberty, twin towers RIP, wall street, these are all symbols of power so to speak (& freedom in the case of the big green chick) so it makes sense to me. Not to mention, Saki's arch nemesis, was Hamato Yoshi, who lived in... you guessed it, NYC.

Largest city in the world's most powerful country?

Somebody else did have a vendetta against NYC, after all :(

That's not really the point. In season 3 they were always looking for power for the Technodrome. There are multiple places to get sources of energy on the globe, but they always went to NY and got effed.

... I can't believe I'm discussing this :P

I think the pattern is more that they always followed wherever the Turtles went. After all, they targeted European countries a few times. The logic behind it? Well... There isn't any.

Well they weren't always trying to take over the world, I mean it was their objective but not what they were trying to do every single episode. Sometimes they just tried to defeat the turtles and sometimes they were just trying to steal resources for whatever reason in which case the resources always seemed to be located in NYC since it is a big city.

And for the other times I guess they thought that if they could defeat the turtles no one could stop them so they went after NYC first to see the turtles try to stop them and if they defeated them then it was all a cake walk after that.

I mean thats the best explanations I can come up with besides the fact that its a show.

Coola Yagami 03-21-2010 11:58 PM

Makes sense. I mean, defeat the Turtles first, then noone can stop them. And of course, Shredder always wants revenge on the Turtles... so....

Have you seen the gas prices lately? Do you know how big the Technodrome's gas tank is? Seriously, it's an easy answer if you really thought about.

ToTheNines 03-22-2010 09:03 AM

Have you seen gas prices in the 80's/90's? lol

80´s great era... no one would question something like this then... just would have fun seeing the show...:D

But this question can be made about almost USA media production... but the answer is simple... why NYC was in almost 80´s productions (see movies from the 80/90´s)... because there was the source of the money to make them and some of the target market.

I did. I would think it would be more fun with more adventures in the rural parts of the USA. Casey Jones grandmother had a farm in most TMNT versions.

Yes we know that the cartoon and the original run comics were so different...

Cartoons - for kids (target age 3 to 11)

Comics - for teens (target age 10 to 19)

Not just that but who read the original comic always see the cartoon has something lame.:trazz:

That were the cartoons then... and I believe were much better than today... too much violence, too much "real", to much "explained" cartoons nowadays, were go the silly fun?:teek:

Probably because they were villians and that's what most villains goal is.

This.

It's an American cartoon and most of the action takes place in NYC.

In Anime aliens go to Tokyo to take over the Earth.
