Cloning

what does every one think about cloning? Do think it's cool? Scarey? Would you want someone to clone you after you die so your parents, friends, and loved ones don't have to live with out you? Wuld you clone a child if you lost one prematurely?

Would cloning be ok if it was just for medical reasons. Say, you lose an arm and the limb is too mangled to be reatched, or it's lost in the belly of a shark when you swimming in the ocean, and doctors said they could clone you a new arm to reatch to replace it, and it would be your own arm! Or is the act of cloning people playing God way too much?

I'd love to clone myself.

A lot of times.

A clone wouldn't have the same personality. It wouldn't be the same person. It'd be like having a baby that looked just like you.

WAIT!people can be cloned!? I thought only animals could.!

PAAATE 03-26-2010 03:51 AM

I dunno... When they've perfected the technique, I don't think I'd mind being cloned myself. I'm not up to date on this topic, but a clone still haven't lived a full and healthy life, right?

For so called "moral" and "ethical" reasons - only animals.

But obviously they COULD clone a person.

Candy Kappa 03-26-2010 08:25 AM

I see it as a good thing, besides cloning is nothing new in nature

TheCanadiandrome 03-26-2010 12:57 PM

for certain medical reasons it would be ok. like it would be nice to have compatible organs for transplants and also this would allow more people who need transplants to be saved.

and of course like someone said there's the "moral" and "ethical" reasons why it shouldn't be alowed

Ulisses31 03-26-2010 01:16 PM

Does they have to grow complete human bodies to get cloned organs?

Or they grow only the organs?

I see a second body cloned from me sleeping in a stasis pod, that is sliced each time a need an organ. For medical reasons only...

And I would like to have 3 clones of my wife, to have one always ready for sex, other to take care of my children, other to work and get some more money that we always need.
I would aloud them to change roles from time to time, so they don´t get bored. :D

Peanut 03-26-2010 01:18 PM

If sh*t gets like The Island, I'd be all over it. Let me live eternally thanks to my many many clones and their harvested organs. I wouldn't feel bad.

so, basically you lay around, do nothing, and have sex whenever, while you wife does all the work? wouldn't want them to be bored though.

I have no problem with cloning. Cloning yourself....or dead relatives....or pets is silly. clones are not the people or pets that have passed....they just look the same. It's a twin. Twins are not exactly the same. the clone would do nothing but remind you of your loss.

I was joking... She is a stay at home mum and I was a stay at home dad until Feb2010.

I had a "sabbatical" year in 2009 and was great, we always done everything together, taking care of our kids, the laundry, even cooking (she was very bad doing it, but one year was enough to tell her some secrets), now she is alone at home with the kids, and have to do alone the daily house work and when I get back home from work she is always very tired but always have some love for me... I admire her.

She is my Goddess, she gave birth at home alone with me because it was her wish, when I say I want to have 3 of her, well I know what I say, and she need it more than me.

Now because of our store, I am at home only from 23h (11pm) to 06h (06am) and I miss her very much. I work on holidays, my store never close for lunch is open from 07am to 22pm, and I work here alone, every fuk**** day.

But we need the money and is our own work and profits, at least I don´t have a boss.:tcool:

Just to say... from every women out there, some are really candy for your eyes, the only one I want and like is my wife, and I believe some man would clone a star from movies, but I would clone her, better than my wife only 3 of her, hope someday another man fell and say the same about is wife, I don´t see many doing that.

Ethics/morals aside, I think cloning in general is costly and for the most part unnecessary. And a process not without flaws.
I think where it will start benefiting medical science is when you are able to clone a (for eg.) kidney, specifically, without a host.
Maybe we'll even get to the stage where we can clone the stem cells that built our bodies in the first place, and use them directly to repair our bodies good as new, no spare in stasis necessary.

They are called stem cells and yes they are cloneable... but is difficult to use them to grow organs without further knowledge about RNA process in DNA.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...tments.svg.pngDiseases and conditions where stem cell treatment is promising or emerging.[51] Bone marrow transplantation is, as of 2009, the only established use of stem cells.
Medical researchers believe that stem cell therapy has the potential to dramatically change the treatment of human disease. A number of adult stem cell therapies already exist, particularly bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia.[52] In the future, medical researchers anticipate being able to use technologies derived from stem cell research to treat a wider variety of diseases including cancer, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, and muscle damage, amongst a number of other impairments and conditions.[53][54] However, there still exists a great deal of social and scientific uncertainty surrounding stem cell research, which could possibly be overcome through public debate and future research, and further education of the public.

Stem cells, however, are already used extensively in research, and some scientists do not see cell therapy as the first goal of the research, but see the investigation of stem cells as a goal worthy in itself.[55]

Controversy surrounding research

Opponents of the research argue that embryonic stem cell technologies are a slippery slope to reproductive cloning and can fundamentally devalue human life. Some in the pro-life movement argue that a human embryo is already a human life that is entitled to protection.

Contrarily, supporters of embryonic stem cell research argue that such research should be pursued because the resultant treatments could have significant medical potential. It is also noted that excess embryos created for in vitro fertilization could be donated with consent and used for the research.

The ensuing debate has prompted authorities around the world to seek regulatory frameworks and highlighted the fact that stem cell research represents a social and ethical challenge.

The recent development of iPS cells has been called a bypass of the legal controversy. Laws limiting the destruction of human embryos have been credited for being the reason for development of iPS cells, but they are less efficient and reliable than natural stem cells. Various methods are being developed to bypass this problem by removing mutations. [56][57]

No, I'm not for cloning. In the back of my mind, I always saw it as it starts as a technological advancement in medical, but then eventually crosses the line via the Storm Trooper approach.

TheCanadiandrome 03-28-2010 11:14 PM

Storm Trooper approach? there's an idea the US Army can better itself by having a Clone Army! rofl!

i say go ahead and do cloning! let scientists play god. hell they've been doin it for years why let a little thing like moral ethics stop 'em?!

My point exactly ;)

Slap-Happy 06-27-2010 11:34 PM

They clone animals, why can't the clone us? I mean, we ARE animals.

愛 06-27-2010 11:38 PM

You can't capitalize a thread topic? I'll do it.

As for cloning, I think it would produce incredible medical breakthroughs, so I am all for it. Killing human embryos, whatever. Let's do this.

XERO 06-28-2010 10:11 AM

The only reason I ever wanted a clone was to have somebody to play videogames and make music with. Other than that, it's not my cup of Sunkist. All it's really doing is boosting scientists' egos to even more insane and asinine heights.

Give 'em 300 more years. I swear they'll be attempting to clone a planet.

plastroncafe 06-28-2010 11:22 AM

People forget we already have human cloning: They're called identical twins.

I'd prefer science focus more attention on cloning replacement parts, rather than replacement organisms, but...the latter makes for a bigger splash paperwise and from there more endowments/funding.
