What's with the lack of news regarding Mirage's future?
 

Why has there been no news on the future of Mirage? PL said he was encouraging the Mirage staff to continue to work together, even keeping their workspaces. But if there are no comics being put out, what are they staying there for?

Idk man, I do know one thing- They aren't allowed to set up a ninja turtle table at the NYCC... Thats a little suspect.

I'd imagine they're staying because they live in the area, and free studio space is nothing to sneeze at.

The no Turtle Table at NYCC doesn't surprise me though. It'd take Nick or Peter to run it, and neither has anything to promote at the moment.

What news are you people expecting? There basically is no future for Mirage. A few remnants remain, but they basically closed their doors on December 31.

I suppose the best thing to do is probably following the blogs of Peter Laird, Jim Lawson, and Michael Dooney.

Jim Lawson hasn't updated his blog since January.

And PL's blog is just a collection of photo's, motorcycle trips, old TMNT art, and rants about the latest movies that he hated.

And the real tragedy is that the Steve Lavigne/Ryan Brown blog hasn't been updated in almost a year.

The odd time I look at the comics boards and people keep asking why Mirage ain't at some major convention. Theres nothing left for Mirage after Tales of the TMNT #70. Why would they be at a con if they ain't gonna be around as a comics publisher?

People were probably hoping the Mirage guys would hopefully come on their own volition to cons at the Artists' Alley.

It would be nice, but I agree it probably isn't realistic. Most of their "side projects" have very small followings (Planet Racers, Paleo, etc) that are made up mostly of super hardcore TMNT comic fans.

You don't need popular "side projects" to have a table in artist's alley. You just need to be an artist who wants to show, sell, and/or share artwork. However, it does cost money to have a table, travel, and attend. Each artist would have to pay all those costs out of pocket, as Mirage no longer will. So it's up to the artist whether or not its worth the cost, if they even want to do it in the first place.

Dooney is going, I don't remember what he said would be his thing though... Jokingly he said something like 'I've drawn the ninja turtles' would be his label lol. Rutger & I convinced Jim to go but when he went to the site to sign up they were out of tables. I thought maybe he could tag along with Dooney but he said 'I could only tag along to bring him sandwhiches' or something haha.

Something like that anyhow.

I can't believe Mirage is about to put out its last TMNT comic next month. Granted we might get a Vol. 4 issue later in the year if we're lucky, but probably not this year.

This is the first time TMNT comics have been "done" since 2001, correct? The last gap was between when Image #23 came out until Volume 4 started in 2001.

Almost a decade full of TMNT comics was a good run.

Technically, they can still draw TMNT stuff, according to Jim, Mike, etc.. As for conventions, as Rose said, it all depends on them.. We shall see.

Here's to hoping Viacom allows the Turtles to be licensed to a fitting publisher, and said comic turns a profit.

I find it depressing that all this goes down when I'm celebrating the 25th anniversary of TMNT. Bittersweet I guess...

Nope, Beijing Zoo kidnapped me in hopes that I would mate with female panda in exhibit...apparently we're endangered...had no idea. Just escaped the other day from those voyeuristic human beings...unbelievable, no privacy at all.
