What if the personality alterator was used on Michaelangelo or Donatello?
In the old toon, Donatello's invention, the personality alterator was used on Leonardo in Leonardo Lightens Up. That made Leonardo go from a completely responsible guy to a completely irresponsible guy who had nothing better to do than to goof off and have fun and not care about what he has to do. Later in Mr. Nice Guy, the ray was used on Raphael and made him go from totally grumpy and aggrivated to totally nice and caring, and hesitant to do even the smallest mean thing and even when he has to be mean to bad guys. The ray was never used on Michaelangelo or Donatello though. I think if it were used on Michaelangelo, he'd care more about working instead of surfing, skateboarding and comic books. If it were used on Donatello, he'd be interested in simple stuff instead of genius stuff and inventions. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I think Mike and Don would basically just switch personalities if that happened. ;)

and Donatello will be a mix between Mike and Raph.:) |
personally, if the ray had been used on Michelangelo in the old toon I would have liked to have seen it made him a bit mean and hostile. Michelangelo was such a chilled out dude and easily the least aggressive of the four (without good cause) and was just such a "nice guy" in old toon and the least likely to say or do anything intentionally mean to anyone, that it would have been really something to see him suddenly act mean.
Like when Raphael or the other turtles poke fun at him he actually has something nasty to say back. Or when Rocksteady and Bebop try to pick on him because he's not as scarey as the other turtles he scares the crap outta them. Some how I think that'd be a fair flip side to his personality if it made him mean and belligerant. (Since flipping ones personality to it's extreme opposite seems to be what the ray does). As far as Donatello goes, I'm not sure. Many fascets of his character have been explored in the OT. His clone showed what he be like if he was an egotistical villian. And Night of the Dark turtle showed what he'd be like if Donatello ever "went over the edge". |
I will take the easy way out and give them the opposite letters on the Myers-Briggs.
Donatello- INTP- so he would be a normal, sociable, normal, concrete, normal, run of the mill, normal ESFJ. Michelangelo- ESFP- so he would be a nerdy, calculating, strategizing, planning, masterminding INTJ. When Leonardo, an ENFJ, had PTSD in season 4, he went into his ISTP shadow. Hence he seemed like Raphael, only worse. He also disintegrated from 1 into 4 Enneagram-wise; hence he was being so emo. The shadow may have somehow shown up on Leonardo Lightens Up to a lesser extent- since now he was being a carefree laid-back skater instead of the usual idealistic spiritual leader he is. And Raphael would be transformed into an Extraverted iNtuitive Feeler- hence he was so nice and friendly in that one episode. |
I dunno, Mikey would become all serious and whatnot, or since they always poke at him being the 'dumb one', they'd make him smart to the point where it would cause animosity with Donatello.
Don, however, I see no difference between him and Leo being the serious ones. He'd probably also become a carefree goofy slacker with no interest in science and machines when the team needs him most. |
Mikey- Serious and studious
Donatello- Dimwit and extrovert |

It's very potent. I remember as a kid thinking Mike was dumb just because Raphael kept saying he was. When I re-watch the series now I'm actually a little surprised at how stupid Michelangelo is not. Thus the power of suggestion I guess. Quote:
To me if Mike got zapped by the ray it wouldn't make him super smart or studious or mean spirited, it would probably make him subdued and serious to the point of being depressive. For Don, I say it would make him love humans, since he seems to dislike them, or maybe make him evil. Mad Scientist Don FTW! |
I think Mikey would become a totally angry and embittered individual that only feels good when he's causing pain. He would also loathe pizza and surfing.
Donnie would think humans are great and reject all of his techyness and his turtle self and try to be a carefree human. |
Does anyone think that don would become violent if he got zapped with the ray? Like how he did in season seven?
I have no idea how Mike would react. |
not really. although he wasn't super violent, in the old toon he wasn't a pacifist either. He was very pragmatic in the sense that he did what he had to do.

What would Don's personality modifier device had done if it zapped Mike/Don?
We saw what it did to Leonardo in, "Leonardo Lightens Up" where he just wanted to have fun and chillax like Michelangelo, and we saw what it did to Raph in, "Mr. Nice Guy" where he became an overly goody two-shoes and acted all nice even to the mad scientist who wanted to take over the city.
What would it have done if they made two more episodes where it zapped Michelangelo or Don himself? For Mikey I think it would have made him a hardcore action hero with no fear and throw himself into battle, and the Turtles would worry he'd get himself killed. For Don it'd likely make him really stupid/infant-like and the Turtles would have to get him back to his old self to save the day like he usually did in the show. |
Michaelangelo would be a workaholic instead of partying and Donatello would be into simple stuff instead of being an inventor.
I actually started a thread exactly like this one, its from a decade ago so it’s okay: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=30718 |
I read the sentence "a decade ago" and I was thinking about a thread made back in 2005 or 2006.
... Then I saw your thread was made in 2010, and came to the realization 2010 is now an entire decade ago. Good god where does the time go. I feel like 2010 was yesterday. |
And if you zapped the Shredder with it, he'd actually be the Shredder rather than the weird love child of Lex Luthor and Elmer Fudd he is in the show!
|
Super serious, hard working Mikey and lazy Donnie who shuns learning and doing much of anything.
|
Considering all the personality alterator ever really did was make people "very nice", I don't think it would affect Donatello in much anyway except maybe make him a little less tempremental when he's working on his experiments and gets interrupted; since Michelangelo was always pretty "lightened up", the effects on him would be negligible.
I think a better question would have been what would've happened if any of the guys got zapped with the ray with the dial set on "very nasty". Then they'd probably be like their clones in Donatello's Duplicate. |
