Bars

Bars--

how do you guys feel about them?

Cure 05-01-2010 09:28 PM

Wanna be more specific there, champ?

ToTheNines 05-01-2010 09:35 PM

As long as they have cheap beer and don't card, they're cool. I went to Hard Rock Cafe bar for a show one night and the beers were 5 dollars per bottle!

psssh! Beer at a bar or some club can cost from 13-4$ in Norway, Your lucky to get it under 8$.
Alcohol is expensive in Norway due to the Christian conservative politicians. There is also strict time limit to serve alcohol.

Bars are awesome

Candy Bars? Tasty but I don't love them.

Drinking Bars? I don't frequent them often, but I've never had a bad experiance.

Prison Bars? Suck.

Mars Bars? Iconic literary character.

Brodie 05-01-2010 11:20 PM

Half-Life taught me that crow bars are awesome.

Real-life told me that bar mitzvah is for jewish. :toops:

I don't like them. Too dark, too smoky, too loud. If I want a glass of wine, I will get it at a restaurant where I can also get some food to go with it.

Powder 05-02-2010 07:38 AM

This is HARDLY VA material dude. There are no politics behind this nor is it in any way controversial. Its really more of an "Everything Else" kinda thread.

Portuguese bars... know as "tascas" have food... and wine, beer and Licor Beirão (my favorite)

I was out and about in town last night, we visited several bars then off to the clubs afterward. In one particular bar we were in, it was very very rough. I went for a piss, as did my mate. In the toilets there were two guys, putting a wet floor sign across the the sinks. One goes to us, (this is while me and my mate are hosing by the way) "We're just doing a coupla lines, you don't mind, huh?" Then proceeded to snort coke off the sign. Me and my pal Scott are pretty straightlaced, none o'that drug malarky. They then asked if we wanted to buy some, Scott asks how much. "£39 for an ounce"/gram/I can't remember, to which Scott replied with "If I give you forty, will you give me a pound change." It was hilarious. The two blokes didn't know how to take it, so I just ushered Scott outta there, then we left promptly afterwards. It was a kinda scary bar, but at one point, we stuck some Meatloaf on the juke, a bitta Paradise By The Dashboard Light, and ended up having a good laugh with some of the local drinkers there. Scott pretty much did a duet with what one of my other friends reckons was a hooker.

As for bars, I love em. Especially on a pub crawl when you end up in right rough ones that you normally wouldn't go to. I don't have a local, there's a couple round about me, but I don't want to get into the habit of visiting to often. Can't afford it, y'see...

I went to Dylan's Candy Bar in NYC last weekend. I bought some gum. It sucked.

Katie 05-02-2010 05:00 PM

....mmmmmmm Mars Bar.

Bars are boring. I don't drink.....usually the bands are horrible.....usually the food is horrible....and if you are female and not a troll, loser guys gravitate to you (ok, even if you are a troll, you can get action in a bar)

I've got better things to do with my time and money

plastroncafe 05-02-2010 06:01 PM

Don't have a lot of patience for bars.
Pubs, on the other hand, I loves me some pubs.

discordiatookie 05-02-2010 07:27 PM

What's the difference between bars and pubs? I thought that bar was the American term for pub, a bit like football being called soccer, etc. So it were pubs that I was drinking in last night.

Thats a more interesting debate, or idea...I prefer pubs also.

I'm not sure what it is. The atmosphere in a pub is completely different, so thats probably it.

My stepdad found an ace Irish pub in Nazare which sells Guinness. At extortionate prices. He doesn't mind though, as he really likes his Guinness. Also, isn't there a smoking ban in Portugal? Every pub we went into, it was being flaunted.

Yeah, what Brodie said.
I hear bar and I think: establishment where there aren't enough chairs and you have to scream to get heard over the music. The goal is to meet people or drink to excess.

Pubs have more seating, and they're more likely a place you can hang out in for hours talking with friends.
