Classic Toy/Toon NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

My favorite incarnation of the Turtles has always been the classic toy colors, to me thats the turtles most iconic look. And I wanted my Turtles to reflect that, I've always loved the color scheme, plus i like how all the turtles have different skin tones.

I did not take WIP pictures, but body wise they are the black and white neca turtles, but i resculpted there biceps and chest bigger. I felt it'd be more in proportion with the big feet, plus the toon/toy turtles were a bit buffer looking than the comic style sculpt arms and chest. I also redid the belt buckles

I tried best i could to match the toy colors but its a bit off, the chest shell color was a bitch to match, some of it's not 100% but limited by the amount of spray paint colors tamiya has. Paint wise these are tamiya spray paints bases with liquitex acrylic build up and nu pastel shading.

I also made a set of special accessories based on the cartoon gear. they were sculpted as well. I made the Turtle Comm i wasn't able to do the anntenna kept falling off. I also made Mikes, shell grappling hook thing he uses. Leo I made the weapons rack that the toys come packed with. For raph, I made Pizza one peperoni and one anchovie. I also made the boxes look like the Pizza boxes from the Turtles in time video game. The heart box refills your life and bomb box gives you the pizza power super attack thats what those are homages too...

Leo and Don should have shoulder straps like the 88 toys, but besides that I like it.

I thought these were just going to be Repaints! But they are way better!

These might be some of the coolest NECA customs I've seen. I love how they look exactly like the box art from the old toys. Great job!

Wow , really nice ! Personal like these the best !
Cowabunga !

Okay, so those are really awesome. I'd buy them for sure. The cartoon specific accessories were a nice touch too. Great job.

Thats how I feel lol. I've seen so many repaints that I almost let out a groan when I saw the thread title but these are so boss.

Awesome work! I'm not sure I like the resculpted biceps -- they just kinda look like balloons on the arms, as opposed to the clearly muscley (and veiny) biceps on the original figures -- but everything else about these is boss. If NECA had released these, I'd have bought a set for sure!

Peter Laird would be so annoyed :tlol:

BoggleKng 05-22-2010 10:23 PM

Sweet, I bet those would fetch a pretty price but they are worth keeping, nice work indeed.

Ninjinister 05-23-2010 02:11 AM

Damn, I don't know what to say other than this is very impressive!

Thats was something i intially really wanted to do, but when i was sizing straps on i dunno they looked off to me compared to how they rest on the classic figures, so i left them off.

I do think the biceps could be done better I did them kinda in a hurry and in retrospect i think i shoulda padded them with sand paper to match the skin texture on the neca figs better. They kinda stand out cause of how smooth they are.

and yeah overall on the lighting it came out kinda dark, they way i light stuff is by having lamps off to the right and left, but i don't have a front light. Because i always cast a shadow if i try, so i need to think of a way to front light a bit more in the future.

Thanks for the feedback everyone now I'm in the process of painting up bebop and rocksteady.

This is awesome. The old school touches are just really great.

nice job...one question did you disassemble the figures to spray paint them or did you just do a lot of taping off?

TheCanadiandrome 03-03-2011 03:22 PM

those look sick! love em

Yes I took mine apart when i painted them. I didn't do any taping off except for the face bandannas which i used masking film on. I hate taping things off and tend to avoid it when i can...
