Some upcoming Usagi Yojimbo books that involve TMNT
 

Just wanted to pass on the word to you guys about a few Usagi Yojimbo collections coming out later this year that included the crossovers with the Turtles.

The first one is a book I've known about since it was announced about a year ago, yet I have never seen discussed on this board. Fantagraphics Books will be releasing Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition, a slightly expensive tome that will feature all the material from the first 7 UY collections (i.e., the ones that are published by Fantagraphics as opposed to Dark Horse, and Turtle Soup and Rabbit Stew should be included as it was in the third UY collection). It will feature some never-before reprinted UY/TMNT material (the Crossing?) as well as The Treaty from the OOP and hard-to-find "Shell Shock" collection of TMNT short stories. UY: Special Edition is currently due for release on October 12, 2010.

Also, Dark Horse is doing new printings of the first few UY collections they published (8-10, to be specific) that will contain "remastered" artwork and story notes from Stan Sakai. Volume 8: Shades of Death is most noteworthy to TMNT fans as it contains the 3-part UY/TMNT crossover "Shades of Green". You can distinguish this 2nd edition of UY vol.8 by the notation on the cover that it includes an intro by William Stout. The new UY editions from Dark Horse are due for release on September 29, 2010

So... Are you saying that Fant is releasing an omnibus?

Also noteworthy is the fact that Darkhorse's UY Collections 8-10 are the entire run of color Mirage books.

So they're FINALLY reprinting "The Treaty" then, are they? Never should've skipped that one in the first place (it is likely the "never before reprinted UY/TMNT story" they're talking about, as they have reprinted "The Crossing" before).


This is a little irksome for me, as I JUST began buying the individual graphic novels starting from the beginning and I don't want to double-dip so early.

Well, I'm only 2 volumes in. If the omnibus is a good enough value I might go for it.

I thought that Usagi Special Edition book was out already....

Anyway, it makes me sad that the materials label the TMNT stories as non-canon from Usagi's side. They're obviously canon on the Turtles' side of things, what with Usagi being mentioned in Volume 4 and all....

It got pushed over to be release this fall, reason was so they could add "extra content" or something along those lines :ohwell:

Hmm, if it's just the Amazon description then I wouldn't put too much stock in the "non canon" designation just yet. They could be misinformed or just making assumptions ("crossovers = non-canon" etc.).

The product description also only lists 2 Usagi/TMNT crossovers when, if they *are* including the never-reprinted "The Treaty", then there should be 3.

I actually could have sworn they were listed as non-canon on usagiyojimbo.com , but I can't find that right now....

Perhaps they're non-canon for Usagi but not for the TMNT.

I hope the Usagi special edition will arrive soon, I pre-ordered it last May.
