Psycho Andy's custom TMNT
I've been lurking on here for a while, and have finally decided to share some of my work.
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/i/20...PsychoAndy.png (Description taken from my deviantART page: http://psychoandy.deviantart.com) I dig the old Playmates TMNT toys a lot, especially in their sculpting. But some of the paint jobs seem like total mis-cues, in a lot of cases. So I've taken it upon myself to repaint the toys in a way that they look and feel pretty awesome. This is my repaint of Slash, the evil turtle from Dimenson X! Originally Bebop's pet turtle that he kept hidden from The Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady doused little Slash with a dose of experimental Super Mutagen, creating a completely insane and powerful mutant turtle. I decided to make Slash less blue (lower left) and make his colors look more like those of an actual turtle. I also decided to paint his wooden shoulderpads so that they actually looked like wood. My old Slash toy had his claws broken off, but they were that same purple as the shoulderpads. Since the hero turtles all have brown knee and elbow pads, I continued that with Slash, and made the spikes look metallic. 100% acrylic paint on a Playmates TMNT Slash from 1990. Hope you guys enjoy. :) |
Oh man that Slash is sick! Awesome job.

Thank you!

Were you trying to base him off the turtles in time slash? Cause he looks allot like the turtles in time slash colors. I really like that paint job. I think slash is one of the best sculpted old figures.
I'm always torn on slashes color scheme, cause while i can see people thinking its bright and gawdy, the regular toys green is just a really nice color to me and the toy popped, i've always liked it allot. But I also like the turtles in time and more realistic coloring hes had as well he looks more badass. I always have the damndest time deciding which look i like the best. |
Nice, I love the dirty toe nails!!
|
What a Bodacious Slash , great paintjob man
|
Truly great work, man! I was going to do that to an extra slash I have... but never got around to it (I'm lazy.) It wouldn't look as good as yours, tho!
Now do the other characters! :tgrin: Quote:

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/20...PsychoAndy.png As I said, I dig the old Playmates TMNT toys a lot, especially in their sculpting. But some of the paint jobs seem like total mis-cues, in a lot of cases. Take, for instance, Groundchuck, whom you'll probably remember best as the level 2 boss from TMNTIII: The Manhattan Project for the NES. And if not, go play that game. It's awesome. So, Groundchuck. A mutant steer cyborg? That's pretty awesome. But no steer has EVER been fire truck red, nor do they really ever make mesh shirts in bright blue. A purple horn? Cows don't have purple horns! And lavender straps? C'mon, guys. I understand that this was an era of brightly-colored toys, but let's go for some consistency, here. I painted him a reddish-brown, painted the non-robot horn and all the straps and gloves black, and decided that blue just wasn't a good color to go with him, so I used the kinda drabby green. I gave all the metal and clothing a black wash, and put a dark brown wash over the fur, then painted some stuff with metallic paints, to really make them stand out. I liked his green mohawk, though, so I left that. I just made it brighter. And now he looks like an actual mutant steer cyborg, instead of a cow-firetruck thing. |

The original TMNT figures are all pretty awesome, twisted, kind of dark, brooding designs (much like the original Eastman & Laird comics). But after the sculptors at Playmates came up with those awesome sculpts, the people who did paint applications made them all super bright and kind of painful to look at. I understand that it's a children's line, and I'm by no means saying that my repaints are the way the character SHOULD look. I'm not trying to make the definitive version of any character or anything like that. I just want to make the toys look better than they already do. If you dig my paint jobs, that's awesome. And if not, that's cool, too. |
These are great. I really want to see more.
|
Awesome! Got any turtles?
