Did April not seem as connected to the Turtles in this series?
 

Even though April started off as a close friend in Season 1, anyone else feel as if April and the Turtles friendship really disappeared around Season 2 onward?

At that point the Turtles were having adventures all over the damn place, and April was usually absent in most of them.

I almost feel as the series didn't keep much emphasis on April being their first human friend, unlike most of the other versions except Mirage.

Well, 2k3 was more like Mirage and April wasn't always around in Mirage. It only makes sense.

Maybe they just didn't want her being "damsel in distress" all the time, like her 80s/90s counterpart.

haha yea this kinda got old in the OT. I got tired of her saying "this will make a great story" as well.

But I think it's pretty much based on the Mirage series and April usually wasn't around for the adventures. Come to think of it I'm not sure she was ever really the damsel in distress in that series.

you people stop bashing OT April. LOL It's not her fault she couldn't get herself a Casey Jones like all the other April's in multi-verse.

And...how can you say she was distanced from the turtles? I thought she became more and involved with their major battles as time went on and she became more proficient.

Actually, I felt that by the time she was piloting hover cars, breaking into government agencies with her bare hands, and ninja-ing the Foot she was a little too present.

If you were OT April, would you really want OT Casey intimately involved in your life?

I never really thought about it but actually... but even though she wasn't always around she seemed closer to the turtles in this story. They were more like family. April wasn't really close to the turtles in the old cartoon in my opinion. She relied on them to get her out of a jam and liked them and cared about their wellbeing but it's probably the nature of the old show being mostly comedy oriented and the 4Kids show having more depth to it that makes me feel the characters had stronger bonds this time around.

Yeah, they definitely played up the Don/April aspect in this series more than with the other turtles (no discussion on this, lol. I talked to the fellas at TMNT, and that was specifically written that way.)

But I liked April in this newer series, and I can't say I ever did in the OT (I, too, bored of the 'what a great story!!' and damsel in distress thing), so I felt she was used appropriately enough. Not always around, but 'available' and supportive, if that makes sense.
