As I was enjoying a slice of pineapple pizza something in the newest TIME magazine caught my eye. I found this quote in the Verbatim column:

"We have two numbers in the Jewish belief that are lucky numbers. One is 18, and the other is seven. I thought 18 was kind of too high, so I went with seven."

Obviously, that bit isn't terribly important to TMNT fans. The part that is important is who they attributed it to.

"HAIM SABAN, TV executive and creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who gave a record $7 million to the Democratic National Committee."

I think all of us here know who created the TMNT, and its not this dude. So who is he? Isn't Saban the name of the company that made Next Mutation? Or am I just confused.

I'm going to e-mail TIME about their mistake, but I'd like to know who this guy is first. They don't have an e-mail address for notifying them of mistakes. (Heck, who would?) But they do have [email protected]

um Saban is the company if i remember right that helped put the TMNT on air, and supported them after they came back the SECOND time, and they DID make Power Ranger i do remember that

Kali 03-27-2002 03:28 PM

I don't know. Saban IS the name of the company who was partially responsible for The Next Mutation. And that guy is part of that company. Named after him, of course.

Obviously they just got their facts messed up. They were thinking of TNM, and clumped the whole TMNT in with that.

Machias Banshee 03-27-2002 03:29 PM

Wow, maybe instead of giving money to the democrats *cringe* he should have put some of it into the Next mutation!

coolmike1586 03-27-2002 03:30 PM

geez people nowa days, isnt there a crime for tryin to take sumone else's work? like plagerism er sumthin?

Skeletoncrew 03-27-2002 03:37 PM

I think it's TIME's mistake, or where ever they got the quote from. Someone screwed up anyway.

Personally I'd like to see TIME print a correction.

Machias Banshee 03-27-2002 03:41 PM

Shall we bug them?

Kali 03-27-2002 03:51 PM

If you do, make sure you give them the correct infomation, and maybe point them to where they could double check it.

Skeletoncrew 03-27-2002 03:55 PM

Thats what I'm thinking. Just something like:

To Whom it may concern, I noticed that this person is attributed to creating the TMNT...really Eastman and Laird...Please give credit where credit is due. I don't know what Saban's accomplishments are, but creating the TMNT isn't one of them.

I'm also considering giving Mirage a heads up.

Machias Banshee 03-27-2002 03:56 PM

That's really good. im sure they would pay attention to something like that, and i'm positive the Mirage would definitely say something about it...

HorseTechie 03-27-2002 03:59 PM

yep... And if they didn't, they would after reading it here!

Kali 03-27-2002 03:59 PM

Geez, but it's not like they did a whole article on the guy. It was one sentence. They should print an apology and correction, but you don't need to get too many people involved for this one tiny mistake. But that's just my opinion.

Skeletoncrew 03-27-2002 04:08 PM

Awww...I wanna call in the national guard!
*stomps foot*

I agree, its not that big of a deal. But I brought it up here so that maybe a few other people would e-mail TIME as well. I don't want to be the "lone nut".

Machias Banshee 03-27-2002 04:09 PM

Too late! *glomps SC and runs for it*

azure turtle 03-28-2002 04:22 AM

Interesting. I don't like Saban very much, and that dude definitely didn't create the TMNT. Time should get a little tap on the wrist for their mistake, but Saban should be tarred and feathered. I don't even know if the Power Rangers are still around...

Kali 03-28-2002 09:57 AM

Oh, unfortunatly Power Rangers is still on in one form or another. I stopped keeping track after the first cast change. I don't even know whether there are new episodes or just repeats.

I still think that whoever did the interview said Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, and someone else tranlated that to mean ALL TMNT stuff. What bugs me is that he'd be better known for Power Rangers, so why didn't they mention that franchise?

azure turtle 03-28-2002 10:03 PM

Ya, that is odd. Saban is famous (or infamous) for creating the Power Rangers. Choosing to mention TNM over Power Rangers is seems like a blooper on someone's part.
*shrugs*

Machias Banshee 03-28-2002 10:05 PM

Probly too embarrassed to admit his involvement in the power Rangers!!

Skeletoncrew 03-28-2002 11:28 PM

*sings* Sometimes you feel like a nut!

I'm bad. I haven't sent any e-mails yet. I had to leave for work right after I wrote that yesterday.

azure turtle 03-28-2002 11:30 PM

Hi, SC!
*gives SC a mango of joy*

Who would want to admit that they were involved in the Power Rangers? Gah, I can't stand that show.
