I found a cool "Turtles:1" movie location in NYC.
Hi,
I'm new here...I wanted to start out by saying that I'm 31 and I've been a Turtles fan since back in 1987. Like many others, my interest exploded even more when the first movie came out in 90'. I've always been fascinated with the Jim Henson costumes from the original movie. I live in Columbia, SC and I'm only a few hours drive from where they filmed the first movie in Wilmington, NC. I've always wanted to tour the back lot of the "Screen Gems" studio, but I can't seem to find anyone who works there that has a clue about the TMNT films that were shot on their lot. While on vacation in NYC last December, I found a cool film location from Turtles 1. I knew that since I was only going to be there for 5 days, I wanted to find as many "turtle" locations as I could. I was able to find the location where Raphael walks out of the theater after seeing "Critters", and says, "Where do they come up with this stuff?" He then crosses the street and trips up some muggers on the sidewalk and then gets into his fight with Casey Jones. I found the theater, (which is really the Donald Trump International Hotel). It is located at Central Park West and West 61st street...within throwing distance of Columbus Circle. When Raphael was crossing the street, you can clearly see the tall white Columbus statue in the background. This is also the same spot where the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man steps out for the first time in Ghostbusters. Anyway, I also found the spot on the sidewalk where Raphael tripped up the 2 thieves. I'm not good a posting photos, but if someone is willing to post them for me, I will gladly e-mail them to you. I tried to take the pics at night and during the day and I tried to have my camera in the same spot as the film cameras. - Trevor |
Cool! You should totally post the pics. Use imageshack.com or photobucket.com.
Or send them to me and I'll try to ppst them later. I'll send you a PM. |
Very cool, Nelson is right try image shack or photobucket. You don't have to sign up for image shack if you try it http://imageshack.us very cool stuff =)

I e-mailed the pics to Nelson...waiting on him to post them. The pictures were taken at night, like in the movie. Like I said, the 2 main things that make this location 100% accurate is the tall "Columbus statue" in the background and the street sign in the movie, and in my photo is "W 61st"
I also took some photos of the same area during the day, the pics feel more like the movie at night, however. - Trevor |
OK, here are the pics.
