Watching through the 2k3 series for the fist time
 

I condensed all of my posts in this thread here so it's easier to read than scrolling through here.



I'm fairly familiar with the 2k3 show but I've actually never watched most of it, the show came out when I was around 15 and by that time I had long grown out of cartoons, I remember knowing about the show because I was a "gamer" and was looking forward to the new Konami game and thought the new turtles looked cool, I was also growing out of gaming pretty much at that point so I never played the game. Around the summer 2004 I got back into cartoons thanks to Teen Titans and Batman:TAS re-sparking my interest in cartoons. Thats when I started watching TMNT in Miguzi Cartoon Network's old block, I watched it for a little bit before CN took it off. I think I watched a lot of season 1 though I think I watched none of the story-arcs and only got all the filler episodes like the Garbage man one and others like it instead of more foot/shredder episodes which I think I only saw 2 of. It wasn't until Season 4 started airing that I started watching the show and I watched most of season 4 probably only missed an episode or two and I loved it. After that I watched the first 13 episodes of Fast Forward and thats basically all I've watched of the show. Now I've already read plenty of spoilers sadly so I won't get as many surprises as I would have liked my first time but I'm guessing I'll still find plenty surprises left.

TL;DR I'm basically watching the 2k3 show for the first time I plan to post my thoughts after each season and any questions I may get while watching it.

So far I've watched the first two episodes, theres a lot of things happening in the first episode, definitely not a good 'pilot' for new viewers but its not bad. Second episode was definitely an improvement.
So umm a few questions so far..how old is April supposed to be in the show? I'm guessing around 24 since I'm assuming to have that job she's already out of college. Also her work outfit is just her regular attire with a lab coat? :lol: Just looks odd to see a lab coat over a crop-top shirt.

I've also been looking through the forums first topics and man they are pretty fun to read how the members reacted to the news at the time from the controversy of Baxter being black to no Krang and April not being a reporter :lol: I'm also reading the early talkbacks of the threads and I'll finally be ablet o complete the TMNT 2003 talkback thread with links to them since I had no motivation at all after I had first created the thread.

what is your take on the turtles and Splinter as characters?

Have fun watching it. This is my all time favorite series. It gets really good when the Shredder comes.

I really don't intend to write until I finish the season but I had to mention this.

Aprils first meeting with the turtles was handled much better in the OT and felt more natural than it did here, weird seeing something that was actually done better in the OT. Now the third episode does feel like a pilot episode and establishes the status quo, don't get me wrong the first three episodes are cool for fans but its not a good way to set up the series for new viewers unless it was aired back to back like short movie. I mean it takes three episodes to explain what was done in one episode in the OT.

How come Casey isn't shocked to see Raph a giant turtle, he acknowledges it but its as if its not a big deal, same deal with the purple dragons and why did Raph just go ahead and give her the purse like that revealing himself? Its also weird how they made such a big deal about going to the surface and seeing people meet them and after the third episode they don't seem to mind. Can't say I like the meet up between Raph/Casey it was done so much better in the first movie. I think I may be too critical, it might be because from what I've seen the 2k3 show was easily my favorite interpretation of the turtles and now seeing it from the start I'm noticing flaws I didn't expect to see. Nonetheless I'm enjoying it a lot so far I just haven't been meeting my expectations of how much I thought I'd enjoy it. I'll try not to post until I finish the first season.

Random fact, I found it funny how in an old thread they mentioned the ratings of the episode "nano" and people were speculating the show might not get a second season, how wrong they were even if the show indeed never reached a large audience so they weren't exactly wrong.

Well I'm already familiar with how the turtles are in the new show so its not like this is my first time seeing their personalities. With that said I like them though I do with they had toned down their personalities a bit Raph is too angry, Leo too angsty and Mikey too annoying. I always liked Splinter here as well, and Casey they made him too dumb. Maybe my opinion will change after actually watching the characters progress for the first time, so far they haven't shown their personalities too much though Mikey did show his annoying side already and Raph being a jerk.

I'm really surprised you hadn't watched the 2k3 series fully before. From the sounds of your older posts I thought you saw most of it

I found about the first ten episodes or so to get a little frustrating. Cause it's not until about the tenth episode that we finally get a battle between the turtles and Shredder. It's worth the wait though. They have some really great battles.

I've rewatched this series twice.

Maybe next year I'll do a third rewatch from start to finish

Well I've already watched a little more than 50 episodes so I have a pretty good idea how the show really is (like the comedy sucking ;D). though so far its not too bad, they haven't turned up mikey to mega annoying levels just yet. I also know most plot twists and various spoilers that I"ve accidentally read or that were just spoiled from watching later seasons or episodes not in order. So yeah I basically know the series pretty well but its technically the first time I watch through it in order and watch tons of episodes I've never seen. I'm pretty sure I usually posted that I hadn't yet watched most of 2k3 when I discussed it here though, this is also why I'm usually more active in the OT section since I've watched more of it. Theres also about 50 episodes of the OT that I'v never watched. That I plan to get to it, hopefully next year, I was waiting for them to get dvd releases but not anymore I gave them many years for that...

I think I've watched through the entire series, with the exception of Fast Forward (*shudders*) about five times now in the last year. Kind of like on a loop, I just can't seem to stop. Although at this point, I've taken to skipping episodes I don't like or that don't necessarily connect to the main story line, unless I like such an episode.

I'll watch an episode every night or every other night before bed, depending if I have to work early. It helps to get me relaxed. I'm probably weird like that.

Just personal preference, but I kind of preferred Fast Forward over the 2k3. I don't see why everyone hates it so much when I compare it to the 2k3.

I have not seen the 2k3 season yet either. Im working on watching the OT and getting all the seasons, but from what I hear alot of people like the 2k3 season better than the OT so I look forward to watching them!

Just a word of advice, be careful with statements like that, you'll have every OT defender jumping down your throat claiming more people like the OT better, then every 2K3 defender chimming in arguing that more people prefer 2K3. It's an endless cycle. :twink:

Yeah, I went in expecting not to like it, but it was plenty good, and some parts were better than what was offered before it.

Season 1 and Season 3 were my two favorite seasons. They were all about Shredder and the Foot and there are tons of great moments.

Season 4 had some really great eps as it progressed but it had a slow start. Season 2 was mostly a transition season.

I always liked Season 5 too.

Oh ok. I gotcha. Iv never seen 2K3 so I could not argue that. Sorry guys, did not wanna open a can of worms....:tgrin:
