Baxter Stockman gets dumb...

I am sure this was talked about but i can't find it.

Isn't it odd how dumb Baxter gets the longer he is a fly? I mean making him not remember stuff is one thing... but being a moran is another....

Why do you think he got so stupid in the original series? Was it simply his fly brain? Every other mutant got smarter because they adopted the human brain.... I guess he adopted the fly brain? But Splinter adopted a rats brain and he didn't seem to lose any intelligents...

Slash wasn't too bright either, Tokka in the Old show was bit on the slow side (of the little we saw of him)

I'm sure it's just Mutant Villain disease, bit rarer then the henchmen bad aim syndrome

Jester 11-28-2010 06:39 PM

Tokka wasn't as dim as he was in the movie..but I often wondered why Baxter started to get dumber with each new episode.

that is true, but he was still very dependent in Razhar, and I'm pretty sure he'd be lost without him. which makes their episode bit sad that we never see them reunite.

I'd like to think Baxter's lack of intelligence could be credited to not only his fly brain but the fact that he faced constant verbal abuse & discouragement from Shredder. He was already loopy, so adding insult to injury & all... it pushed him to his breaking point which presumably made him go a bit insane.

CyberCubed 11-28-2010 07:53 PM

Wait a minute, people didn't LIKE the fact that Baxter became more dumb or insane?

The mutagen probably deteriorated his senses and his human mind. He generally had the personality of a 7 year old as a fly, hence why he needed help from the computer.

Jester 11-28-2010 08:01 PM

Baxter was mutated via Disintegrator Unit. Maybe it disintegrated his noodle.

So now people are putting apostrophes even in "gets", eh? What a world.

He was never touched by mutagen. Krang tried to kill him in the incinerator. Instead he mearged with the fly trapped with him.

he seemed perfectly normal after the merge took place. Yet episode by episode the genius was lost.

Um, he was that mature before the accident. ^_^

His intelligence came and went while he was a fly. He got dumber throughout his Season 3 appearances and if it wasn't for his computer he would've really lost it. June O'Neil??? Eesh!! "Landlord of the Flies", while a poorly thought out return wepisode fro him )with no computer) was, as Krang put it, clumsy but had promise. Not bad for someone who was a peabrain in his last appearance. IMO he was dumb but dangerous as he still had some pretty good plans. Same with the Rat King.

nwafreak 11-30-2010 05:05 PM

My assumption is that, the longer baxter remained a fly, the worse (smaller) is brain became. No one knows for sure though. While he was a fly, I thought his laughing was absolutey hilarious! I'm sure I'm not the only one.

oldmanwinters 11-30-2010 05:16 PM

As Jester pointed out, Baxter's mutation came about through genetic splicing courtesy of high-tech scientific machines rather than mutagen. Other characters in the OT who experienced a mutation through this method were April in "The Catwoman from Channel Six" and Brick "Bugman" Bradley. All of these characters exhibited various degrees of schizophrenia in their mutant states. So perhaps the process of gene-splicing mutation carried a higher risk of mental instability.

A second explanation could be the possibility that insect-human mutation has an intrinsically negative effect on the brain, given all the humans who went mentally insane (Vernon, Burne, Irma, and, to a lesser degree, April) after being mutated into insects in Season 7's "Revenge of the Fly." Even Bugman could barely control his mental and emotional facilities when in his mutated state.

But I've always been one to try and make sense of ridiculous logic and fantastic pseudo-science.

hey, sorry to be off topic but why did wererat get banned? (btw i have seen how nuts he is )
EDIT: jesus, i read the disintegrator unit topic. he is insane. sorry for being off topic.

It's a thing called cartoon science. Not to be off topic but I don't know if we have any transformers fans in here.Magatron and Sound wave are able to reduce thier size in thier alternate modes.Just an exmpale.Other mutants in the OT were changed by(well a certain female mutant)other means.Getting swept into a subs nuclear reactor for instance.Baxter was pretty nerdy and insane to begin with.Being a mad or angry scientist(Dr Gangreen). In his mutant state with is mind deteriating as it did.Kinda modified it.

1. You're not off-topic, you presented a valid point to explain your stance. (Fit with the stereotypical "mad scientist" formula).

2. Magatron? Sound wave?! Dr. Gangreen?!? Rather Megatron, Soundwave, Dr. Gangrene.

3. Please lrn2space. If the Internet had punctuation police you'd be cited for rolling stops.

One thing the show did keep consistent was that mutagen that's been sitting around for a while becomes highly unstable! See, "Splinter No More," "Michaelangelo's Birthday," and "Wererats from Channel Six."

As if you didn't need another reason to avoid contact with that stuff, right? :-P

One of these days when I'm off from work, if my curiosity gets the best of me, I'll try to develop a recipe for mutagen. You know, just to see what would happen.

Haha.........Just kidding! Its amazing what they made up for this cartoon! Who knows though, maybe something like that could actually be made one day. Although I know I'm not smart enough to even attempt it LOL. I'll need the brain of baxter stockman for that. Minus the fly, of course.

Boy, what a disaster that would unleash upon the world. Can you imagine how chemical warfare would evolve if they invented a substance that could mutate humans upon either skin contact or inhalation?
