Turtly, or turtley?
Guys, gals...I'm seriously torn here. Which is the better spelling?
In some of the comics, they use the phrase "turtly awesome," which seems the more "proper" way, though I'm sure there are some words ending in Y that retain the E, I just can't think of which right now. Then there's a shirt of mine which says "turtley awesome." I just can't seem to decide which makes more sense, grammatically, aesthetically... Although I tend to prefer "turtly" due to the whole "dropping the E" rule, I'm starting to think it may not work in this case, because the E is so important to the pronunciation of the word, and to strip it away like that kind of does harm, it seems. Thinking too much on it? Of course. :) But what do you guys think about the whole thing? (And please, no lamebrained "who cares?" responses.) |
Turtley. Your given choices are pronounced in two different ways.
Call me a lamebrain, but who cares? :trazz: |
lol^ I have no idea but I'ld say Turtley too , sounds better , don't ask me why .
|
Turtley is the right one i'm pretty sure.
|
Turtley looks and sounds better in my opinion.

Yeah, it would seem that the "laws of grammar" would dictate that "turtly" be pronounced as it looks: "turt-ly." Without the E, there's no visual nor grammatical cue to say that the L is stressed and drawn out.

Maybe France was deprived of The Jetsons.
But yeah, I love that sig pic, ha ha. She's ecstatic. |
Anyone that uses either variation of the word probably deserves a stumble down the stairs.

Hey, I think it's cool—I love it as a fun play on "totally."
|
Turtley. It's "turtle" with a Y on the end. Simple enough.
