New toon in Fall 2012, no toys until then, film in 2013 - such a long wait!

Is this drought of new turtle stuff getting to anyone else? Playmates killed TMNT for 2010 (understandable, with no cartoon/movie to go with it), but we still have another year and a half before a new toon shows up, and even longer before the next movie. Playmates, even though they're not doing anything for 2 years, is still blocking NECA from releasing a few figures. We really just have nothing for a while. And of course Laird killed Volume 4.

By the way, dates taken from Playmates yearly report to stockholders.

Quote:

“Preparations for the 2012 re-launch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are making good progress as planned. Playmates Toys is working closely with Nickelodeon on the development of the all new TMNT products to be launched with the US premiere of the CGI animated TV series scheduled for Fall 2012, and to be followed by a feature film from Paramount Pictures planned for 2013.”
Toy sales for last year were also down 77%, lawl.

So, how are you filling the dead time? I actually decided to finally watch the original series all the way through. It's not as painful as I remembered it being last time I tried to watch it.

Great idea! I think it's a very underrated show when it's given a chance to stand on its own merits of wit and slapstick!

If I might make a little shameless self-promotion, why don't you consider supplementing your enjoyment of original series with some fan commentary tracks!

I really wish Playmates would make the new figures like the NECA line. So much more detail. Just a better product all around.

I guess I'll be watching for the new lines to come out so I can start collecting again.

im ready for the new line :)

Ninjinister 03-27-2011 03:29 PM

Wait, when was the film bumped to 2013?

Doc_ock_4mugen 03-27-2011 04:51 PM

So, this means no TMNT Toys until 2013?
Wouldn't this be a nice moment to take advantage of the Retro-Inspired yet Updated to modern times figure love that Started with GI Joe and followed by MOTUC and ThunderCats Classic?
Just picturing the Vintage TMNT Line but Updated in terms of articulation and in some cases sculpt makes me feel excited... Too bad this ain't happening.

Dunno. That's just what Playmates said.

I am looking forward to another new Nick Show: Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

It's been a while since I watched a lot of the 2003 cartoon. I'll probably just watch every episode all the way through at some point before the Nick cartoon airs.

Not going to consider it confirmed yet, then. After all, Playmates also said there was a 2010 movie coming out that was live action/CGI when there was nothing in the works at the time - just discussion with different studios.

Toonzone also reported a few weeks ago the 2013 date but they provided no source at all and have also reported some erroneous dates in the past. Lets not forget playmates reported on TMNTIV back in the 90s as well. So yeah take it with a grain of salt however I do think its likely the movie may have been moved to 2013 if anything because of the amount of competition 2012 has, seriously check it out every week in the summer has a AAA franchise coming out known to make a lot of money, and early and late 2012 also have big hitters.

I don't think the wait will be too bad since we're already starting to see designs of the new show and whatnot so we have stuff to discuss, it was last year that was a year without any news at all. I'm also sure the playmates toys will be ready before the show actually comes out by a few months.

The figures are going to be released before the show debuts. Toy lines start coming out before debuts all the time. Look at the TMNT line...I saw them in stores way before the movie came out. Same with the 2k3 line, at least to my memory...

...but yes, want more figures, NOW...

I hope you're right Donny. (What am I saying...it makes perfect sense.) I just hope we get to see some of Playmates offerings before they hit the streets. I haven't bought any action figure (including DC Universe of Marvel Legends) in a long while, so I'm not sure if I'll buy the Turtle figures either...unless they are indescribably awesome.

Here's to hope! Besides my hunt for reasonably priced MIB NECA Turtles, (I took mine out of the packages for display) I'm with you - I haven't purchased any figures lately.

Unless it's Transformer toys for the cartoons - sure, the movie toys come out on time or early, but toys for Transformers: Animated took like 6 months (or longer?), and TF: Prime doesn't have toys out yet either hehe.

In addition to watching the old series, I finally started beefing up my original toys collection too. It had been long neglected!

Doc_ock_4mugen 03-27-2011 11:05 PM

The toys better be good otherwise, they will not be going home with me.

Slap-Happy 03-27-2011 11:26 PM

I saw the 2k3 line at stores months from when the show actually started airing. I'm guessing the toys hit shelves around late spring/early summer next year.

Damn Nick, this is prime time to be releasing international DVDs of the orginal and 2K3 shows, along with special editions/full-versions of some of the movies. and while there at it, the next mutation to boot!

They release season 9 of the original toon, with a "complete series" launching on the same date, in early 2011, with season 10 to follow indivudally in summer. 2K3 series complete box-set, in addition to season 3 individually on the same day, could of arrived sometime late 2011, perhaps september.

Season 4 of 2K3 DVD kicks off 2012 in january. with season 7 to arrive in the summer. also in the summer of 2012, the complete series of the next mutation releases internationally.

Not only would that of provided hype for the 2012 toon, but also help out people to complete there sets (if they haven't yet imported), allowing fans non-stop shell-kickin' action all the way up to the 2012 release of the new series.

Meanwhile, special edition of the films could be released throughout 2011,2012, and 2013.

I've got an idea for some reading and publishing I'm going to do to fill my freetime. Keep an eye out for it! :twink:
