Bring on Tristan Jones as lead writer for TMNT!!!
I'm pasting what I wrote over on the IDW Forums since not everyone here will register over there. I'll also link to this poll for support in the other topic. Ready? Here goes:
Tristan has proven himself, on multiple occasions, to have a firm grasp of what makes the Turtles kick ass in comics! His issues of "Tales of the TMNT" were always best-sellers and two years since his last "Tales" story, we fans are still chomping at the bit wanting to see Tristan's "Gang War" story-arc finished. Not only that, he is one of the few writers I know (outside of Mirage) who have a good handle on each Turtle's personality. His blend of great comedic timing and heart-pounding action bring forth such suspense and excitement that readers are nervously anticipating turning the page to see what happens next. Tristan evokes an atmosphere in his Turtle stories that hasn't been captured since the mid-eighties when Kevin and Peter collaborated on the original issues. The guy knows how to seamlessly blend the styles of two polar opposite men and roll them into a ball of total awesomeness - one that mixes just the right amount of dark, gritty, intense action with a nice helping of great characterization and good humor. Very, very few know how to write good humor, especially so with the Turtles, but Tristan manages to do so and also capture the essence of Mirage at its greatest heights. IDW, you want to do us fans right and create a damned fine comic iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, one that we and many others in the comics community want to see and read, and will attract others to pick up the book? Then bring on Tristan Jones as the main writer of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. We know him and his work. We know his love of the Turtles and trust him to handle them with care. We WANT to read his stories. |
I voted yes, as Tristan's issues were proper amazing, amongst the best of Tales.
|
I voted "yes".
Though if you wanna do something more productive (no offense to a good natured thread), give IDW an e-mail and let em know, since they likely aren't gonna see this thread: [email protected] |
I wrote them an e-mail a couple days ago saying this:
Hi (sorry if my english is not too good), This a future reader of your new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. No matter what you do, I'll be buying it like I have bought every single Ninja Turtles comic in the last 20 years. So, congratulations for the new project, and thank you so much for bringing back the Turtles in comic form. As a person who's read every Ninja Turtles comic ever published, I would like to suggest you to consider Tristan Jones as the writer for the new series. His writing skills are out of any doubt, and the issues he wrote for Tales of the TMNT are a good example of it. Obviously, there's plenty of good writers out there, but Tristan Jones has proved to perfectly understand the universe of the Turtles, giving fully of respect to the original source, but taking it to a new level, applying a mood and a tone that would very easily appeal to a wide audience. As I see it, this new series should mainly focus on trying to find new readers, but luckily for you there's already a huge fanbase out there for it, and the franchise is popular enough to attract a lot of casual readers as soon as it hits the shop. The writing of Tristan Jones would absolutely fit with all this audiences, and us the hardcore fans would be very pleased to see a person who truly loves the Turtles taking them to this new direction. Thanks a lot in advance for your time, and I hope you take it into consideration. Antonio. And I just got this response from Bobby Curnow, IDW's associate editor: Hi Antonio, Thanks for writing in! We'll do our very best to live up to the high standards that have been set for Turtles comics! You're not the only one recommending Tristan Jones- we'll definitely be keeping him in mind! Thanks for your support. So keep it up guys, we might actually do it! |
I may have to send an e-mail myself. I think having Tristan onboard would be great!
|
Posting on the forum and sent in it e-mail just to cover all the bases!!
|
You guys are awesome. Seriously, thanks for the support! I just saw something similar over at the IDW forums as well. I've got a feeling they'll be setting up their own TMNT boards there as well eventually. Also, if people do say no (I'll KILL TH--) it's cool, I know not everyone dug what I was doing and I respect why.

Of course, we don't really know what confines or boundaries the new series will have - only that it's PG+, so far. Would you enjoy writing stories for that target demographic, knowing we're going to be commenting over here on the 'drome? hehe. |
In addition to my e-mail, I went over to the IDW forums and posted in the thread on the subject (and in the general TMNT thread).
Hopefully their ears are open! |

I'm only going to send the e-mail if you promise not to destroy the Mirage continuity, and keep the all red masks, and make Nick release the uncut version of Turtles Forever...
Ok...I'll stop. |
Since the first issue is slated for September, I imagine a writing team has already been set up, but it would be nice to see Tristan join the team.
|
I would so want to see Tristan as a writer. He has made a lot of amazing issues in Tales of the TMNT. I would support him.

Hey Tristan, would it help grease the skids if I told them you also do windows? ;p
|
Not familiar with Tristan's work but isn't he the guy who posted a link to his podcast reviewing Turtles Forver and saying Awesome every other sentence? If so thats pretty awesome, I'd vote just for that.
