Ch'rell or Krang

Which alien warlord you prefer, I feel Ch'rell is the more interesting of the two since he have an identity crisis.

Jester 04-15-2011 10:48 AM

I vote Krang, because he was fun in the old toon and actually pretty wicked in the Archie comics. I do wish they'd have built more on the genocidal war lord angle though.

Even though I personally prefer the 2K3 series over all I voted for Krang because I feel out of the two he was the more well developed character.

I voted for Krang. I like him better because he didn't kill 4.2 million people like Ch'rell did.

Depends on who you ask...
In the Archie comic, despite being cute as a button, he destroyed Wingnut and Screwloose's home planet...and who knows how many others.

I never got tired of Krang. Ch'rell on the other hand... :x

PizzaPower 04-16-2011 01:16 AM

ima have to say krang.....

shuriken 04-16-2011 01:22 AM

Krang was all over the place. One day he was a bickering half of a gay couple with SHredder, another day he was destroying the city with the Android body. Ch'rell was just a douche the whole time telling people they weren't gonna get out of here...alive for 3 seasons. Krang had more staying power.

TobTurn 04-16-2011 08:40 AM

I think Ch'rell is more interesting because we know nothing about him. We only know him as The Shredder and Oroku Saki, but what did he do before that time came? How was his life?
We know much more about Krang, so for me, he's not really interesting. He's also a pathetic villain.
If they were in a fight, Ch'rell would definitely win.

Jester 04-16-2011 09:56 AM

I think that would have made for some good episodes, showing us Ch'rell as Duke Akoret and his other aliases.

I choose Krang though I do like Ch'rell quite a bit. For me, I generally view characters from a writer's point of view and from a psychologist's POV. As I'm i nschool for psychology i find myself dissecting characters. Though, I tended to do that as a kid too...

Anyway, for me, while I like Ch'rell, he always seemed rather..well, flat to me. We know he's a psychotic universal killer who took on the Shredder's name to inspire fear and along the way managed to raise karai. While it certainly makes for a useful and challenging villain, it's also a bit generic. A scary-warhungry-crazy villain. Well, I see those in a lot of cartoons and movies. If they had given us a bit more background on him, I probably would have liked him a bit more. Although, Turtles Forever uncut version of him not caring if he extinguished himself as long as the Turtles were wiped out too almost did that for me.

As for Krang...well, yes, he is not nearly as threatening as Ch'rell nor is he generally much of a physical threat but his personality just wins him over the top for me. I think he's quite unique. The way he and Shredder interact with one another like a bickering married couple I find hysterical. I also thought his motivations made him a villain less predictable than most, case in point during the Season 1 episodes. He chooses to free Michelangelo because Shredder has failed to complete his part of their deal. I love villains that switch sides, if only briefly and in small ways, just because some part of their goals weren't met. I find them much more intriging than someone who is always "we're going to destroy them"

Just my two cents

I voted Ch'rell. I like them both a lot, but I give the edge to Ch'rell, bc of how well he was develope. I didn't the Archie comics so I didn't see Krang's full potential. In the OT I loved the way Krang was set up, but I think he was used improperly jst bc of the tone of the show. I jst cant take him seriously as a war lord

And it happened in Turtles Forever. When Ch'rell made his exosuit giant, Krang did the same thing and it only took a second for Ch'rell to cut off Krang's body's arm and he didn't stand a chance.

Krang

I voted for Krang.

RiseAbove873 04-17-2011 10:01 AM

Krang all the way!

Cowabunga Carl 04-17-2011 11:49 AM

I had to go with Krang as well. For me when they made Ch'rell it just seemed like a cheap way to keep the Shredder around in 2k3. To me it felt hollow all the things the turltes went through to try and stop him.

Krang on the other hand seemed to be writen a little better. That and the Archie comic, what little I read, actually made him seem a little more compatent. He had ambistions and it wasn't always clear why he did somethings. To me he was just the better concieved character.

Jester 04-17-2011 01:05 PM

I think that's why Krang works, Carl. He's obviously not an imposing physical threat, like Ch'rell, but he's way more conniving. One of my favorite Krang episodes actually comes in season 10 where he and shredder are forced to out-wit Dregg after he drains much of the Turtles and Krang's own energies. It also show how competent Saki could be...which was cool.

Scandia 04-17-2011 07:07 PM

Both seem rather one-dimensional, though Krang got a bit more development.

A bit.

What caused Ch'rell and Krang to turn out that way? I mean, war criminals on Earth usually seem to have motivations. They may be evil, but they have backgrounds- they are not one-sided. At least not the most famous one- the one that showed up in the Archie comics.
