[WIP] 12" Slash Custom

I had already started a thread like this, but it's gone now. I'm embarrassed to say that I have done very little to this project since I started it about six months ago, but I'm hoping to finish it soon.

I had been trying to find a use for the two stray Slice n' Dice Shredder blades that I used on his hands as claws, and now I wish I had ordered two more from MyTeeFineStuff so that I would have had two for each hand. I can always go back and rethink it later on, but I may just leave it how it is. If anyone has any questions about what I have left to do, feel free to ask.

Discuss.

The WIP looks good so far! Slash needs more lovin' IMO. I should learn how to make custom figurines, it looks like fun from what I saw in other threads.

Slash has probably been done more than you would think, several people used the NECA turtles as bases for him, and one guy who worked on Tales of the TMNT Vol. 2 used a 2002 Leo to make one, which was featured in one of the issues. There have been countless repaints of the original figurine, too... but yeah, they're more obscure for the most part.

Is this a bootleg? I mean...that pink belt.

No, I painted the belt that color. It was supposed to be a reference to the purple belt variant figure from the 1990's line. I mixed the paint up to be a bit pinker than I expected... :teek:

Edit: I guess it could be another reference to the OTHER meaning of "TMNT Slash" :tlol:

Really now? It's a shame I probably will never see most of them.

More love for Slash!

I did a Mutatin' Slash custom a while back. When I get the time I'll upload it on figurerealm.

I was thining about that the other day, and wondering why you didn't use Mutatin' Tokka as a base.

the pink belt and floral background show a much different side of slash :)

Looks good so far. I think the curved blade on the right wrist is the way to go, as it looks a lot better to me than the straight one on his left wrist.

I think the end result will have two of each blade per hand.

Tokka's a bigger, thicker figure than the standard Turtle, and despite the standard Tokka figure being just a remodeled Slash, the characters themselves are completely different sizes. That, and the limbs and stuff were completely different between Mutatin' Tokka and the other Mutatin' Turtles, and I wanted to use the ones the others had without going through the hassle of swapping limbs.

I like what you got going on cjj... are you going to repaint the green to match the original figure too?

No, I've already repainted it to match the Archie books...

Powder 05-31-2011 04:21 PM

I can see you put in a lot of effort, and the paint job is relatively clean, but this doesn't really scream Slash to me. I think if you were to match the original figure in skin tone (like a teal or turquoise,) and went for purple instead of pink, you'd be on the right track. I know you're going for the Archie look, but in doing so it doesn't really give him that immediate recognition... I don't know how far you're looking to take this thing, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to sculpt some shell spikes out of something and cut holes in the back to shove 'em in. Either way, neato, & good luck if you're not done yet.

TheCanadiandrome 05-31-2011 04:25 PM

lookin good dude, can't wait to see finished product

Loco 06-01-2011 04:42 PM

you've gone too far CJJ i'm gonna call the dimension X SCPT.

Jester 06-01-2011 05:09 PM

So you're making some weird amalgam of Archie's Slash and Playmates' Slash? Kinda odd.
