Why didn't CBS allow the show to hit 200 total episodes?

Since the original series was canceled it was only roughly 7 eps away from hitting the 200 ep milestone. Why didn't they increase the 8 ep orders to 13 ep seasons toward the end of the show?

It always makes me wonder why we couldn't hit the big 200 when we were so close. I suppose you could include the TMNT anime ova but that was just 2 more eps.

Pretentious question is pretentious.

Monkey see, monkey do. NBC had a thing going with Saturday Today & TNBC, that CBS wanted to jump on the news bandwagon. So they decided to have the Saturday Early Show followed by live action kid shows. This left the door open for ABC, Fox & Kids WB for viewership.

In some cities, a CBS or NBC affiliate would have the national news show followed by the local news that went from an hour to two hours. Thus not carrying the network kid shows or have them @ bizarre times. IE: KPRC (NBC Houston) had Saturday Today & their local news, thereby not carrying any TNBC show at the regular time (except NBA Inside Stuff) & had some of the shows in bizarre times; California Dreams @ 4:30 am? Saved By The Bell The New Class @ 6:00 am?

So that's why in 1997, the FCC passed a law that networks & affiliates must air 3 hours of E/I programming.

This is pretty much the answer I had in mind.

There's the real answer.

I somehow doubt the producers gave a care at that point either. Technically, Planet Of The Turtleoids wasn't an episode but a TV special. They even whipped up an exclusive gold plate credits template. So, going by that logic, doubling the size of season 10 would have only given them 199 actual eps. :ohwell:

deadpoolRKO 05-30-2011 01:39 PM

I heard they ran out of paper plates and napkins at the studio

Redeemer 05-30-2011 01:42 PM

Well truefully TMNT was unfortunate was approaching the end of the line, the red sky from what I heard breathed some new life into it, but never really got a chance to get off the ground bc of the Law being passed and TMNT was not considered a learning cartoon...

Clearly those schmoes at the FCC never saw "Turtle Tips." :twink:

Totally, before Leonardo told me why I needed to turn off the water when I brushed my teeth, I was known to waste 2, 3, sometimes even 10 gallons of water.

But no, really, those tips did help and I did quit wasting water. :tgrin:

Haha, of all the Turtle Tips shorts, this is the only one I remember. The funny thing is that I teach 7th grade, and I'm in New Mexico, where water is a precious commodity. Anyway, in history class I frequently bring up the issue of water conservation, and one day I specifically asked students about their teeth brushing habits. Several of them said they let the water run while they brush. No kidding, it made me want to try to google this Turtle Tips episode to teach them a little something.

That would have been awesome!!!!:D

Oh and hear next time u want to show them, jst come here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04rd_ycv378

The only thing I can think of right off that was meant to teach, was the PSA about the kid in school trying to sell marijuana and how drugs were bad.

I bet if I saw some Turtle TIps, though, it'd come back to me.

So some 15 years down the road, a guy named CyberCubed would have something to gripe about on a Ninja Turtles forum.

Fugitoid Jones 06-01-2011 05:06 AM

Those Turtle Tips totally helped. I totally remember the one about chopping up the soda/beer 6-pack plastic so animals couldn't get caught in them, and the one where they teach us about not leaving the refrigerator door open and wasteing electricity, and the one about properly disposing batteries. Whatever they taught, I took to heart (except the batteries one, I'm guilty of throwing them in the regular trash sometimes).

Oh, and as for CBS not allowing them to go to 200 eps? I'm sure letting the show reach a milestone even-numbered episode wasn't one of their priorities.

Leave it to the government to try and ruin kids' entertainment by giving them school on the weekend.

Jephael 06-01-2011 12:10 PM

Don't just blame the government. Blame the stupid parents that thought the TMNT were a bad influence.
