Respect Among the TMNT Brothers

Okay, so I was talking with one of my friends the other day and she asked me something interesting. her question was, among the four TMNT brothers, what was their level of respect towards one another?

Intially, her question was, if they were to use a Japanese term to address one another, which would they use: onii-san/onii-chan/ani-ue or otoutou-san/otoutou-chan/otoutou. Now, I'm aware that the turtles speak english, if they know Japanese, it's probably bits and pieces but given that each of those terms can mean a different level of both respect and closeness of relationship, I pondered it for a while.

I thought it was an intriguing concept simply because respect is different than just plain friendship or love or things like that. I can think of a few people in school that while I valued their friendship, the way they acted sometimes made it difficult to have respect for them.

I was curious what all your thoughts were on that question.

^This is a very unique question. The thing is that they are all brothers and brothers fight thats the bottom line. I would say when it come to fighting they all have a mutual and unique respect for each other.

What the hell is it with all the parroting?!

Anyway, I think the guys all respect Leo the most, after all he is their "unofficial leader". Next up would be Don, since he's the "go-to" guy of the team. Raph and Mike would be a toss-up, but even though I love Mikey to death I feel he is probably the least respected of the group since he is often considered the most immature-acting Turtle.

Heh, I've been noticing a lot of that around the board, as well.

Hmmm... interestingly enough, the order of most respect to least that you listed off also happens to be the order that they are mentioned in the theme song to the old cartoon. :P

Anywho... this makes me wonder... did they use any honorifics toward each other in any of the Japanese dubs of the cartoons? I know both the 87 toon and the 2k3 toon were dubbed over there.

They do respect each other very much; but they do have their differences much like everyone else in this world. One can be very smart on computers and another is smart in self defense.

As for knowing Japanese; I am pretty sure they equally know it well but; Leo would be the one who would keep it up and perfecting it until he has it mastered.

Plain and simple; they come together as a family to help out each other when things go tough. Much how they acted in the first movie where Splinter told them to work as a team; work as how a family can come together and always stand by each other when one doesn't get the job just right.

In view of their lifestyle, I'd say their respect for each other is higher than most any sibling relationships on the planet. They may annoy each other every once in a while, but what they go through for one another day-to-day I'm more than certain severly overrides that. A family who lives in this way would be be close no matter how much or little they tried to be, it's only natural.

They respect each other the same way normal brothers respect each other... duh.

Wouldn't surprise me if they used something like "aniki" for Leo. As for the others, I could see no honorifics being used at all.
