Leo In Yellow/Venus In Pink (Next Mutation)
In the intro/outro clips of The Next Mutation, there's a group shot shown in which Leonardo is wearing yellow pads and a yellow/green bandana.
What the shell? I noticed it right from the first episode and was always confused by it. I know that Venus was originally going to be Pink... My theory is that once they switched her over to a pale blue somebody figured "We can't have two blue ones, that will confuse the kids." and thus switched Leo over to the next primary color. Then, somebody else workin' on the show said "C'mon, he's the leader, he's always been blue. You can't just change that!" & they brought her back to pink. Then they said screw it & thus they ended up as we know them all to be. Does anybody have any details behind this? What would your reaction of been had they kept this change? Do you think Venus would've been better suited in pink? Share all yer thoughts on the matter. Here you can see Leonardo in Yellow- http://i41.tinypic.com/210xguv.png & here is where you see Venus in pink. This Playmates promo picture was released prior to the show airing, but I'm assuming after they'd already made the change. http://i44.tinypic.com/339ksbd.png I remember having the Playmates catalog (or whatever it was) that this picture was featured in, and thinking that I much preferred the pink bandana. Now as an adult I understand that they probably switched it because it was too much of a LOOK IT'S A GIRL SEE SHE WEARS PINK vibe going on, plus maybe boys would've been completely turned off by the color... I dunno. Even so, I still kinda like it better but maybe that's only because it's something different from the norm. I love variation. As for Leo in yellow... I actually always thought it looked really neat, if only for this series. Leo is my favorite turtle, so switching his color for the rest of time wouldn't be cool with me, but if The Next Mutation had been an exception, I wouldn't of minded at all. It's a cool "highlighter" kinda color, and I'm a sucker for neon. :trazz: |
Now that's WEIRD!!! My guess is that something when wrong with the coloring effects on that green/blue screen shot. But why not just give Venus a color other than pink or blue, like... maybe yellow?
EDIT: And seeing how this was Saban, Leo totally should have became the White Rang.... er... Turtle! |
I've never noticed that Powder and I didn't know she was originally going to be pink. I think they might have been more successful with her if they did leave her pink. Just asked my wife and she said Pink for sure.

Pink's too stereotypically "girl"....
Just kidding, It'd have been better than "lighter shade of blue". |
maybe it is a bit of a stereotype- but i think the picture that shows her wearing pink looks a lot nicer.

No idea with Leo in yellow. But i think Venus looks a lot better in pink.
|
I think Leo's yellow by accident, Like Adam said, a snaffu with either the lighting or the "chroma key".
|
To me I associate yellow with April, so not having her in TNM makes some sense with Leo, though it's stranger. Maybe they should have just had red bandanas with different skintones (except for Venus, who could be blue). But given that it was live action and people liked the pink ranger on Power Rangers, I'm sure it could have worked here.

There's no way that Leo is yellow by mistake, guys.
|
Really digging that pink Venus figure.
|
I remember something about them wanting to have Venus be pink, Leo be yellow, and Don be black but it was decided against at a certain point in pre-production.
|
Leo in blue, Venus in pink hands down
|
DRAGON SKULL! SO AWESOME!!!!
I also seem to remember hearing somewhere that Venus was originally supposed to be Pink, but I can't for the life of me remember where... |

They probably used a blue backdrop for that shot (instead of green because of the turtles' skin color) so Leo got a different color for his bandana. Then they didn't correct it to reduce costs (it's a very short shot anyway)
That's the most likely explanation. |
Venus is still blue in the picture, seems a bit lazy correcting her colors but not on the turtle that is closer in the shot
