Alopex or Ninjara
Now, I don't mean to criticise with this thread. But I just can't shake this feeling. Alopex might as well have been Ninjara.
I mean, imagine reading the raphael one-shot with Ninjara, to me it wouldn't make any difference if Alopex was Ninjara, the only difference I can think of is that Raph's monologue about the fox moving in with them would be a bigger throwback to archie though I guess that sort of was the case with Alopex too, at least to me. I don't mean to say Alopex is a bad character and I'm sure she has potential to be interesting but she is just so similar to Ninjara she doesn't feel very original. The biggest differences I can think of is that Ninjara wasn't a mutant and Alopex most probably is. I wonder if the writers actually thought of using Ninjara when writing this issue... Maybe I should ask. I heard some people say Ninjara is a silly name, I think it's ok, but even so that could be easily fixed by using her real name "Umeko". How do you guys feel about all this? Would it have made a difference to you if they actually used Ninjara instead? |
Ninjara had 50 issues or so of screentime so naturally I like her more than a character with one appearance.
|
I have only seen 1 issue featuring Ninjara and that was the XxX comic... I like them equally
|
i like her, but i do see what your saying...but she was being use by Bebop and Rockstady to get rapahel and know where the turtles/splinter lair.
|
Man I hope around issue 30 Ninjara shows up and kicks her ass. :) That would be too good.

I just wondered if anyone else thought Alopex might just have well been Ninjara here and if it would have felt different to you. |
See to me if it was Ninjara I would have preconceived ideas of where the character would go. Having it be a brand new character I feel they can do whatever they want with her and not have to pigeonhole her into set idea.

You can fix the issues with the name Ninjara by changing it to her real name "Umeko". Problem solved. And yes, I agreed Ninjara was from a race of fox-people unlike Alopex but Splinter and Leatherhead were originally animals and look at their Archie origins, both started out as humans.... But I don't want or mean to bash on Alopex' character, and she serves the purpose Old Hob mentioned at least. But yeah,... keeps feeling like a white ninjara to me :). It could change once we learn more about her. |
While I have nothing against either character, I'm not a big fan of 'em. Curious to see what happens with Alopex, though.

Ninjara wasn't a mutant with wall-crawling claws :P
I agree with Old Hob though. Making a new characters let's them do what they want without feeling cornered. Whatever the case though, I'm more concerned with the fact the comic only focuses on Raph so far. Ehhh~ |

Though I must say the last 2 issues the other turtles got some decent development as well, especially Donnie was interesting with his cold logical way of thinking, dropping the search for Raph because he's probably dead, letting Raph kill Old Hob because it makes sense not to let him get up again. Cool stuff. |

I like Alopex, she's a cool, new character. Ninjara is awesome, too, but, they're 2 different characters, just cause they're both ninjetic foxes, doesn't necessarrily mean Alopex is a rip off of Ninjara. That'd be like saying all for TMNT's are a rip off of eachother, cause they're all teens & ninjas, or that Slash & Tokka are rip offs of them, or eachother.

Right now I can read Raphael #1 imagining Ninjara instead of Alopex and it would not be weird. I can't read Archie Slash stories imagining Tokka instead because that would feel weird. |
I agree that going with a new character eliminates the constraints of where everyone thinks the character (Ninjara) should be or what they should do. This way they can take it a whole different characterization route and not make anyone too mad.
I also remember reading something about IDW not having the rights to Ninjara since she was an Archie creation. Can anyone verify that or was that someone grasping at straws? |
