Vol.1 issue 1 and 3. need some checking and opinions

I recently bought a lot of tmnt comics form craigslist came with the 4 micros 1-9 first tpb 1-3

for super cheap. So I got 2 covers to issue 3 and wondering what the coloring mistake is common and if Issue 1 I should get graded.

Issue 1

Would you get this graded and what's your best estimated CGC prediction?

Now there is this.... Issue 3 same cover different tones plus signed?

Why is 1 cover like that?

Are these real?

Here's my take...
  • Definitely get that #1 graded...from your pictures it looks to be an authentic 1st printing. Sounds like you got a great deal so I wouldn't worry about what it grades at. I never guess at grades from just pictures anyway because I'm always wrong. :)
  • The cover of #3 on the left is the regular/ normal cover. The cover of #3 on the right is the NYCC error variant where the light blue was accidentally left off. It's limited to 500 copies and all of those were signed by Eastman & Laird on the inside front cover. The signatures look to be the same as all others I've seen on that edition.

Regardless, if you paid less than $500-700 for them (conservative est.) then you got an absolute STEAL!!!

This one ends in 30 minutes.

This one ended a while ago.

As did this one.

That signed, one-tone #3 is worth nothing and you should just give it to me. ;)

Actually, if you have a scanner, I would greatly appreciate it if you could scan the cover (front, back, and where the staples are) for the #3 variant. 600dpi. :D The missing tone gives it a weird appearance.

Agreed I was like oh must be a coloring mistake, I thought that may have happened with the earlier issues or something.

I do not have a scanner, sorry.

I dont care for variants I just like the stories. I would sale this if your interested. At minimal I would say its 6-7 and max 8-9 on the grading scale I would have to turn it page by page to let you know where I thought it was at and take pics of anything that was wrong with it.

just from what I can see on the low res picture of #1 I'd call it between a 7 and 8.5. Those are some pretty severe spine stresses on the back, and I'm sure theres tons of detail I cant see because of the picture quality. having said that, you should still get it graded.

Some, not all. There are a number of unsigned copies out there as well. I've owned 4 :-P

you should only get it graded if grading is important to you. for alot of people its abig deal and for alot it isn't. I'm not abig fan of grading but to each his own.

That, and if you are looking to maximize profit, grading is probably the best bet. Love it or hate it, CGC has changed the way books are priced and if you plan on selling, even taking in the rather steep grading fees, you should get your money back easy on a #1 print in any grade.

Also, BIG congrats on this craigslist find. I imagine you got these for a steal and the #3 NYCC variant alone could potentially make all your money back. Deals like this don't come around often (and never to me...)

I want to get it graded because its my first comic that I actually like of getting a issue 1 print 1 of volume 1. I have read the whole story several times but this issue is truely where it all became.

Me personally I dont really sell things back If an offer is interesting I will take it but normally Im on the buying end.

A book like that's too rich for my blood. :D If you don't intend on keeping it, I hope you get some good moola for it.
