The Movie 1 Splinter Thread

Alright guys, time to show some love for everyone's favorite rodent, movie 1's Splinter.

Splinter is portrayed as an insightful sage and a loving father. This Splinter doesn't seem to fight much by the time this movie starts. He's quite old - he never fights on camera, but I always wonder what Splinter fighting the foot would have looked like, if it could have been done. Obviously the Splinter puppet was more restricted than the Turtle costumes...but it would have been a wild scene!

Some of my favorite quotes from movie 1 are said by Splinter. My personal favorite would probably be:

I have tried to channel your anger, Raphael...but more remains. Anger clouds the mind. Turned inward,
it is an unconquerable enemy. You are unique among your brothers...for you choose to face this enemy alone. But as you face it, do not forget them. And do not forget me. I am here, my son.

I also think, unlike the subsequent films, Splinter was essential to this story. The whole arc revolved around him and displays a key personality element to the Turtles of all universes - that of honor for family. Barron was spot on.

So, discuss the first film's Splinter!

I love Kevin Clash's Splinter. The first movie Splinter is the perfect blend of father and sensei. I love all the little moments with Splinter, so much one is in my siggy. Not sure if it's a credit to Splinter, the writers, or Steve Barron but Splinter's gentle wisdom shines through in every scene he's in.

Couldn't have said it better. I agree with every word.

When I saw the first film in the theater, my mom's favorite part was little rat Splinter doing ninja moves in his cage, lol. Actually pretty much the whole audience was laughing, lol.

M1Splinter is perfect!

And it's funny you bring up little ninja-practicing Splinter: my wife (very pregnant!) has been feeling Baby doing what she says feels like spin-kicks a lot lately, and we keep thinking of that very scene-which is awesome!

(Of course, at the first ultrasound, I swear Baby looked like a mutant turtle.) :)
