What's the worst toy in playmates history?

Old toon and new toon, what's your opinion?

Personally, I think the mutatin' april figure from the OT line is just horrid. Every aspect of her is just...wrong.

-she's nearly square in posture
-she mutates into a cat, relating to absolutely nothing with any storyline I know of
-the articulation is about normal (neck arms and legs) for the lazier releases by playmates, but combined w/ the horrible sculpting and its just a stick of a figure
-the details are a joke, she has some kind of...army radio pack on her back...
-the actual "mutation" steps are simple to a point of being boring, like they actually TRIED to dumb it down to crap. every other if figure has some uniqueness to its steps

so far with the 2k line I haven't had much experience yet, but I'm beginning to feel a pain for the original 4 turtle releases legs...theyre so...weird

There's an OT episode where she's mutated into a cat. The Catwoman From Channel 6.

As for the thread topic, I'll have to think on it. Mutatin' April is pretty crappy, though.

i also have a complaint with ninja newscaster april...she can barely hold weapons in 1 hand (very flimsy-ly) and cant in the other, why?!

and general traag, overall i like him, but his hands sculpt makes inserting weapons a royal pain in the ___.

ohh and mutatin' splinter, his arms are on some kind of metal hinges, ive never seen another toy (from any line) with this design, but they loosen quick to the point that his arms just flail around if you wabble him, and go limp to his sides when left alone

what else...

mutatin shredder is akward to stand, has no real posability, and his gripping hand literally has 2 fingers for a grip, the other 2 being wasted, why not just extend the drillers handle a bit and make a normal hand

Clownin mike is creepy looking...

chrome domes foot sculpts make it uber difficult to get him to stand properly, i think its impossible to stand him as the sculpt is designed for, and his head gets loose and spins around with little/no effort.

if you cant tell i've been playing with the OT toys, lol

I want to say Toon Vernon because... I hate Vernon :trazz:. I love the OT Mutations line, but yeah, April is the worst from the lot. I was going to say the Bodacious Birthday Turtles line, but they might be considered "so bad they're good".

Maybe the Kowabunga Crackin' Turtle Egg line? For two reasons;
  1. I'm not entirely certain what the point of the toy is? They hatch out of their eggs or something?
  2. They all look like they're horribly and painfully constipated!

I definitely will echo your complaints, both of you. The Mutatin' Splinter is trash, the damn thing would never stay together for me. & it's too bulky. Also, yeah, those egg fellas were poorly executed. Useless outside of their gimmick, which barely worked or was cool at all. I did like the glossy/sparkly paint their skin had, though. The faces were dope too, but that credit goes to the Storage Shell turtles they were lifted from.

What are you guys smoking??? Mutatin' April rocks. :D

Worst toy is tough, though. While many of them aren't great by our standards today, almost all of them seemed kinda awesome back then. I kinda want to give the nod to the first release Shredder, actually. He was a chore to stand, in an awkward pose, his armor was blue, and he had no shirt -- so he wasn't much fun to play with and just looked wrong. He got replaced as my default Shredder the second I ripped Super Shredder from the package.

The newer lines have a lot more crappy figures to choose from, and given that they were actually up against modern figures I have no problem calling them out for their shortcomings. Hard to say which is the absolute worst, but I think Zixx from Fast Forward is a strong contender for having crappy articulation and a lackluster sculpt and for being so darned small.

Birthday Turtles... Definitely the Birthday Turtles.

This. I was so disappointed with the original Shredder, and replaced him with the WA Shredder within weeks, which was a much nicer looking figure.

Candy Kappa 02-16-2012 04:18 AM

the worst part with 88 Shredder, is his scale. it seems like most shredders share his height, but have straight legs

Super Shredder is disappointingly short

I eventually used the Road Ready Mutations Shredder that mutated into a transport module. You could remove the "cape" piece and add the regular Shredder cape and sorta cover the back. The biggest issue was his lack of armor, but he was still a very good looking Shredder.

<Insert Movie 4 Variant Figure Here>

Tryklone 02-16-2012 06:17 AM

For me, the worst figure is CHROME DOME!.

A character that's suppposed to be a huge menacing robot is actually THINNER and SHORTER than skinny figures such as Mondo Gecko or Ace Duck. Heeeck, it's arms and legs are even skinnier than Fugitoid's! His accesories are crap too! SO SAD.

Napoleon's quite ugly but at least his accesories are cool.
Rat King has awesome sculpted details but his plain paint job ruins that.
BTW my Pizzaface figure seems to be made of a lighter "cheaper" hard plastic than the rest of the figures, but that one is awesome, love pizzaface.

Jester 02-16-2012 07:18 AM

I don't think I'd seen Planet of the Turtleoids when I got my Chrome Dome, so i didn't care. He was skinny, but still an awesome looking figure.

mysterycolor 02-16-2012 09:03 AM

other than the original 4 i think it is safe to say that the entire mutatin line fell short... as a seller i get more complaints about the appearance of those guys than any other sub-series... Shredder is incredibly boring...bebop and rocksteady look BIZARRE, splinter is (as stated above) hard to keep together...april doesnt look good as the cat or as a human... it is just a weird line...

i would also like to add that the "talkin" turtles are really lame too... on their absolute best day you could barely tell what they were supposed to be saying (thankfully it was on the strip)- in addition it is nearly impossible for them to hold their own weapons, you cant really pose them and those stupid "shells" get in the way of everything!

joe-eyeball 02-16-2012 09:13 AM

The Shellastic Turles are some of the most pointless figures ever.

Was gonna post the same thing, but you beat me too it. I just could never get over the fact that he is incredibly hard to stand. Plus the no shirt thing was crazy.

In terms of missing the mark on what made a character cool, I'd have to go with Agent Bishop.

joe-eyeball 02-16-2012 02:31 PM

How about the push button "crippling defeat" figures (Feudal shredder, Traximus, and Gen). The sculpts of these figure were'nt that bad but that action feature was horrible.

Jester 02-16-2012 02:50 PM

Oh, yes. Those sucked.

TheCanadiandrome 02-16-2012 03:42 PM

well as i've never owned any of the figures mentioned above, with the exception of General Tragg & Chromedome, which i think are awesome, i don't think i have a "worst toy in playmates history" as i like all the figures i have
