Custom Mirage-style original Turtles - UPDATED!
Back in the day (well, around 1991), I made what are pretty much my earliest customs (although I didn't think of them that way then) - simple repaints of the original Playmates turtles in a Mirage style. Well, I was digging through some old toys the other week and found them! They hadn't held up well - they were well played with, and my skills at the time were somewhat crude. I had a bit of spare time, so I thought I'd give them an update...

The belts & straps are cloth tape. Just have to find some suitable weapons now... |
Cool job! I was thinking to do the same with the old and the 2K3 figures.

great stuff Disco! i thought about doing the same thing recently, but now i wont need to because you did an awesome job and i can just look at yours :D the paints are perfect and the beltwork steller. as always, i look forward to see more of your stuff.

I love those, man. It would have been really neat for Playmates to release variants that looked just like that. Keep up the great work!

Awesome. A simple job for a great look.

Simple, but effective. The original toys really do lend themselves nicely to the Mirage style.

very cool! looks good
|
Awesome! I love it! The only thing I would consider would be making the belts thicker to give them more presence.

They are very nice.

They are sweet looking

Thanks guys! Finally got around to making some weapons - probably took twice as long to make them as it did to do the turtles themselves!

The bo was just a stick with some tape for the wrapping. The swords have styrene blades and guards. The sai prongs are from an Elektra figure. The 'chucks have real metal chain (that's too big, and will be replaced when I find some smaller). Stained and sealed the wood, and done. I think they look pretty good... |
you know, i really like your work..hell i would add this to my collection :)
just freakin' amazing :D |
Those weapons make all the difference. Awesome!
