Did you make up own TMNT stories as a kid?
Did you make up own TMNT stories as a kid? (I don't count the toy-playing or kids playing TMNT outside in the garden here, it can have separate threads)
If so, how did you do, and what were the plot? Did Shredder and Krang kidnap April and Irma for fifty eleventh time and the TMNT had to save them? Did the TMNT visit Japan? Did Baxter Stockman return or some other mad scientist? Did Casey Jones return, or maybe Zack? Or maybe Big Louie, Tony Vivaldi, or Pinky Mc Fingers, was on the run from prison? Or maybe Don Turtelli was back with his tickle-torture? Or what happened in them? |
I think everyone did. Whenever I played with my toys I made short stories with them.
I never really did fanfiction though, as y'know, by the time I became a teen is when Turtles was dead in the mid-90's. |
I used to do fan fiction between 1989-1996 or '97 I can't really go into detail in storylines because that was a long time ago and I lost all but one book I did when I moved to my current house. But I remember the themes ranged from science fiction to the supernatural. I didn't heavily rely on establish super villains I used them but I mostly used villains and allies I made up for them.
One story I can remember of the top of my head was the demon swordsman vs Leonardo. After a long fight the demon swordsman steals Leo's soul and the other 3 turtles had to travel to hell to get it back before sunrise. |
I mostly did them in my brain, but I never had the chance the draw/write them. It would mostly be a bunch of "what if" plots based on the OT/movies I've seen at the point. Examples are April turning evil after Shredder/Krang casts a spell on her threatening to kill the turtles, the construction of the Technodrome, and Hamato Yoshi turning human again OT style like in the NES game, even though it was without the impression that Red Sky would happen.

Most of my childhood stories centred around Donatello (big surprise). As I got older, the stories became more sophisticated, with Donnie being a scout most of the time, but when I was wee, it was basically "Donatello is the best, the strongest, et cetera." I gave him his own villains, though looking back, they were likely just taken from other shows and tweaked ever so slightly to be more fitting matches for Donatello.
As for more recently, I'd written prologues for each of the Turtles' stories in something I called "TMNT: Shadows of Twilight." The basic premise was that each of the Turtles end up in various locations, due to encountering peculiar, smoky black creature things. I know what happens, but I never finished the story, because the main antagonist ended up becoming the Resinator, Vapor Man's arch-nemesis (don't ask). I couldn't well finish the story, now. At least, not until I figure out a suitable replacement for the shadow beasts. |
I was fascinated with giving the Turtles two things.
Time Machines and Birthdays. |

I drew stories about the turtles fighting Triceraton. That cover art to the 3rd NES game really made me want to see the big T in a comic book.
I remember one story in which I subjected all the turtles to weird scientific accidents which gave them traditional superpowers. One turtle got Spider-man powers and another got Batman... uh... skills. In another story I think one or two of the turtles got retro-mutated back into little turtles until the final battle where they got restored. I did a bunch of Sonic the Hedgehog stuff too. I think I actually drew a "Sonic the Werehog" way back in the mid-90s before anybody at Sega ever thought up "Sonic Unleashed." |

Seriously, though, I understand. I've always loved a good Triceraton fight. The first standalone "floppy" copy of a Volume 1 comic I ever owned was TMNT #6, when the Turtles face off against the Triceraton all-star gladiators. I loved the subtleties like Donatello hesitating before killing a Triceraton with his broken bō and then rationalizing it with their then-frequent honour rhetoric. These sorts of things help to influence our connections with the characters, or at least that specific example did for my connection to Donatello. My younger brother and I used to play Turtles in Time religiously growing up, as well as watch one of the three movies each day, in order, whenever possible. We stayed in character (Michelangelo and Donatello, respectively) the entire time, as we did as Tails and Sonic whenever possible. Odd looking back that he took the role of the tinkerer in that case, but he was always my sidekick, so y'know. But I digress... a lot. |
I wish I had written them down or tried to draw them well enough but I did have an ongoing storyline when I played the toys where Michaelangelo was killed... or so the other turtles though but really he was being held captive. So the other three turtles went on without him and probably tried to avenge his death or something.
I forget if Shredder was behind it. I had a bunch of other toys that I played with as well that fit the role of part-time bad guys so it's possible one of them became the arch-villain for that period. |
As a kid I had Michealangelo, a Foot Soldier (got them at the same time, 89 I think) Rat King, Leatherhead, Sewer Swimmin Don, the double barrel plunger gun and later on Raph and I think Leo- there was major "RPG" stuff going on, my (older) brother was right into palladium (robotech and rifts, sadly not TMNT) and D&D-he would simplify stuff for me involving d20 etc and Id also make up my own stuff in my head, usually Michealangelo solo adventures.
Of course ALL of my friends were into the turtles back then too, so I was Mikey and the collectively we had just about everything. Before the toys were in stores where I lived in Brisbane Australia, I used to watch the show and ended up drawing the turtles on bits of wood and then cutting them out. So much creativity back then, looking back Im amazed. |
I used to write stories as a kid - we had a huge yard with trees and an old barn, so I could do all sorts of wild stories. Heck, I still have the old book that I wrote them in. It's kinda fun to read through what I'd done so long ago... I never would have thought that my stories would have gotten me interested in more and more writing, back then.
|
I thought up a story on my mother's old typewriter once (remember those?) where the turtles teamed up with Splinter, Casey Jones, and the mutant frogs and did a raid on the Technodrome. I can't remember how it ended, exactly, but the good guys won... obviously.

When I was really young, I imagined a story where Michaelangelo got kicked off the team for a little while, because he stole April O'Neil's boots. Like she was resting in the sewers, and Michaelangelo decided to mess around with her boots and ruined them. So she was furious, then he got kicked out, then saved them from Shredder later.
This may have been my explanation for why April went from white boots to orange with the action figures. |

All the stories posted here are great because they sound like they could have happened in the OT in any season :tlol:.

hmm..i remember leo and raph would argue alot. i would put alot of drama circling don, mike, and leo with raph, who in my mind was a real asshole. and mikey would get beaten up cus he talked back and leo would be the hero....
raph would feel bad later and appolgies to mikey, and then out of nowhere rocksteady would beat the crap out of raph and he be injured and leo' comes and fights him off--- and would freak out cus raph would be knocked out and such. guess i liked to put alot of serious drama as a kid... |
I used to pretend I was fighting the foot and would call into the sewer drains for Michelangelo to help me fight them off :D
