Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures, Paperbacks

Hi, guys, I am wondering how these have stood the test of time, I used to read them when I was a kid, but looking at them now, I am not to sure, just wondering what you guys think of the new paperbacks? worth ordering? or leaving in the past? Thanks

You'd sooner find the single issues cheaper to collect, at least up until halfway + into the series.

Well, at least from over in America, I can say these TPBs are actually pretty cheap: [link]

Granted, that's a markdown from the retail price, but still.

i want this

Mewzard 08-08-2012 06:18 PM

I wanted to get this at my shop, but apparently, something went screwy, so they had to special order it for me. Kinda sucks, I wanted to read the first trade today.

Still, at least I'll get it eventually.

This idea came out 20+ years too late, as with some searching when these issues are in lots, including one in which I've sold, you can get the first two-thirds of the series for less than half of what you'll pay just for the TBP, even if marked down at 50% off. As they say, you just can't beat the original if a reissue comes along. There is also no real new info or reference notes about these issues. What they should have done is do about 10 issues at a time since it would appeal much better for customers to see more of the series, and since this is back catalog material, offering the same product at more than double the rate of inflation since 1989 is just a bad move on IDW's part.

If any one gets the book, can you post pics and a review of your thoughts on it? thanks

The Archie series itself is fantastic and well worth re-reading. Some of the best TMNT stories ever came out of Archie.

However IDW's trades are too expensive for 4 measly issues, might as well track down the individual issues.

Expensive, agreed.
Though there's something nice with having a storyline or a series on a bookshelf instead of in a box :D

Yes.

The first 7 issues of the comic re-tell the first 7 episodes of the series. "Turtle Tracks" through "Shredder & Splintered" were told over 3 issues. "Return of the Shredder" & "The Incredible Shrinking Turtles" were given 2 issues each. After this, the comic went in it's own direction.

So after the Incredible shiriking turtles it doesnt adapt the cartoon. But then what about the crystal that Shredder got away with.I know the Cartoon deales with that plot but what about the comics

It plays an important part down the line a ways, and it's different from the animated series as well. The Adventures comics had a great way of calling back events from previous stories.

im just curious in what way and issue of the comic does it come to play

It's forgotten about as soon as soon as it shifts to original stories. You might wonder if the cartoon adaptions were in continuity with the original stories until late on in the run when the Eye of Sarnath is actualy is referenced in The Future Shark Trilogy (#42 - 44) and soon after plays a pretty cool role in a story (#47).

Generally the worst issues of Archie have to do with "Captain Planet" save the enviornment themes or along those lines. Thankfully a lot of it is early on even though it never truly goes away.

Also a lot of the trekking in the middle east felt more like Murphy's political agenda being shoved down our throats rather than actual good storytelling.

Except the Shredder reveal in the desert was just wicked cool 8)

Looking forward to this! I still have a lot of random issues sitting around from when I was a kid, so it'll be nice to have them collected in a trade.
