Does the "third toe" on the 2012 Nickelodeon basic TMNT figures bother you at all?

No. Turtles do not have two toes, nor do humans, so why do some people think they need two toes? 3 looks better. 2 looks weird.

Here's a real turtle for comparison!

Three toes also matches their hands better, since they have 3 fingers.

I don't have a true canonical source for the species of turtle that the TMNT are, but some believe they are Diamondback Terrapins. If you do a google image search you can see they clearly have more than 2 toes... so...

Especially since they've always had 3 digits on their hands.

Zulithe 09-05-2012 08:48 AM

IMO it doesn't even make sense that they only have 3. I'm not sure why it was done that way, but I don't think it has to do with turtle anatomy -- I think they just wanted them to look unhuman in their features and that is a good way to accomplish it.

It also makes it easier to distinguish from all earlier incarnations. We've already addressed this issue in the Nick Series forum. I personally never payed attention to this issue until I heard about the news of the three toes. The extra toe should also provide added grip and flexibility.

Not really bothering, but asking why originally appearance needs to be changed... 2 toes appear matching, 3 toes appear not unmatching, but I don't feel like "WOW !! Look at those toes" ...
I think that new people, respectively new creators want to make things new, and they want to make old things new, too. All right...

When I first noticed the third toe, I was startled. I even thought that it must have been a mistake. The original comics and cartoons all had the third toe/heel in the back.
But now that I'm used to it, I don't really care. Although I do prefer the feet on Nightshadow Leo.

It desn't really bother me at all. It makes sense that if they have three fingers they'd have three toes as well.

Victorsaurus 09-05-2012 10:45 AM

No, it does not bother me. if each feet/hand hat 6 finger/toes or more it would.

If in the new movie they have 4 or 5 fingers/toes it also would not bother me.

They don't really bother me now, but I have mixed emotions about them. I got used to the old turtles having two humanoid big toes, as weird as that is when you think about it. We should have a contest where we re-design the three-toed TMNT foot. :tlol:

***First of Two Latin Kings*** 09-05-2012 11:25 AM

I didn't realize until I saw this thread that they were going back and forth between the two. The inconsistency is bothersome in my opinion. :tgrumble:

I wonder if it was a creative choice to change the toes or if they are based on an alternate design that Nick changed at the last minute for the cartoon, who knows.

I think they are just trying to stay true to the spirit of the original toy line, which had a lot of differneces from the cartoon as well. They kinda take some liberties with the designs, for whatever reason.

But the strangest part is definitely how the basic figures have one foot design while all the other figures (talking turtles, nightshadow, TRU exclusive 11" turtles) have the Nick design.

Where's IveyAngelo! Get on the case :p Time to do a new Playmates interview

I am torn on how I feel but I think I prefer the 3 toe look on the basic figures. The Nick look is okay and It wouldn't really bother me either way, but that's just what I prefer.

Candy Kappa 09-05-2012 12:14 PM

Oh, this topic. Again.

Besides, the turtles had three toes :P

Candy Kappa 09-05-2012 12:44 PM

oh so different, anywhoo.

The toes on the figures fit their respective designs as well as the animated design are fitting to their toes. Night Leo looks off since he is an amalgam of the toy design and the CG models design

Powder 09-05-2012 04:27 PM

It only bothers me that the main lines toes don't match the actual series designs.

Eiko 09-05-2012 06:46 PM

It doesn't bother me really. But i think the basic figures would look better with the toon look toes.

Agent 86 09-05-2012 10:05 PM

I like the original Playmates three-toes the best.

I don't like how the three-toes are shown in the cartoon or on the revised Playmates figures.

I don't really have any strong feelings about it. The only thing that bothers me about the Nickelodeon TMNT toes is that, looking at them, it looks like their feet were just ovular masses, and someone just made straight cuts downward to cut out the "toes" with straight lines. Looks weird, especially since they render the fingers so much more detailed.

I bet that's why, on the basic line, they sculpted the toes with more detail - to give them a more consistent overall look. They look more like the sculpted fingers on the "central line" figures. The other figures look more cartoon accurate - only problem is that the CG models are pretty blocky overall, with their feet looking less like feet and more like, I dunno, giant rubber stamps or something. So the toys have that same look.

ummmmm count 'em

You can look at it different ways:
At first Eastman drew them w/ correct anatomy. At first. The very first 100% ninja turtle had many fingers and toes.

THEN

The co-creators made the first entire comic book w/ three fingers and two toes.

NOW

Nick is kinda meeting in the middle.

It's all good, choose your fave.
Just remember & KNOW what Eastman drew, what They decided on, & what Nick did w/out either one.

There. That's all the facts on the digits!
