Playmates Missed Figure Oppritunities

So, with discussion turned to Baxter's race, something kinda dawned on me: How awesome would a Mutatin' Baxter have been? I mean, we only got Fly Baxter, and not the human version. Playmates could have made another Mutatin' figure of him, and that would have been awesome.

Aside from that little sudden realization, what other characters did Playmates miss an opportunity to make as figures? I know a Red Sky series with those characters is one of the biggest failings of the original line, but what about the colossal lack of >> and Back to the Sewer figures. I'd have also killed for more Archie based figures, then again who aside from Ray Fillet was an Archie only character to get a plastic counterpart?

The figure I always wanted as a kid was a background character that appeared twice in the show. It was another member of the gang that Bebop and Rocksteady came from. He was a bat mutant and showed up in the background once, and then the other time demutated by the ray that could reverse mutation.

Who was that guy? I remember him for those things, I wish he'd have been around more. Him and the other "punks."

yup that is the one. I've been searching for a picture because I knew some people wouldn't remember. I always wondered what happened to them after Shredder mutated Bebop and Rocksteady.

The bat guy that wore the "Cyclops" visor, yeah he looked like a neat possibility. I think that there were TONS of missed opportunities back then. The fact that the Archie comic had original characters coming out of the woodwork back then and the characters from the cartoons that were never produced.
The remaining members of the Mutanimals that didn't get figures, the Gang of Four that ended up killing off the Mutanimals, the 2 remaining mutant frogs, Sarnath would have been AWESOME... there are so many missed characters.
I did like the original creations from the playmates line back then though, and I kinda wished that they'd introduce some of those characters in the other TMNT media back then.

Armaggon is another that I'd have loved to see. I never actually got to that part of Archie but I remember seeing pictures and thinking he was amazing. There are a lot of possibilities with Archie. Here is to hoping that maybe the classic line takes off and they make more "fan figures".

Considering how often we saw the mobsters Big Louie & Don Turtelli it's a shame we didn't get toys of them.

That bat guy would have been awesome. I don't get why he didn't show up in more episodes.

Some figures of the Turtles in wrestling costumes from the Archie comics would have been cool. I would have totally bought an all black Raphael.

I've wanted a set of Stump Wrestling TMNT ever since I first read that arc. I don't go in for variations of main characters and all that crap, but I'd make an exception for those.

This of course has been discussed many times before, especially with the Red Sky characters (Dregg, Hi-Tech, etc.). But there are others that haven't been mentioned. I'm surprised that there were plans for a Giant April and not a Giant Shredder, since that would have sold better. Kurma from the Turtleoids episodes, Fripp from Camera Bugged/Welcome Back Polarisoids, Pizza Monsters that actually mutated by opening a meatball to reveal a red pizza monster since Case of the Killer Pizzas was a VHS classic, REX-1, and even having a button to press on the Turtle Van to make the cannons fire, much like how Pizzas fire from the Pizza Thrower. As nice as the original line was, it could have been quite a bit better.

I wanted Mutatin' Baxter, Leatherhead, and Slash at the very least.

The Name of the Mutant Bat was Scrag check out his origin here:
http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/Scrag

It would have been great to make the entire Bebop and Rocksteady gang into figures.
Also a Dimension X playset with a free Rock Soldier figure included

TMNTChris1980 09-15-2012 12:30 PM

I would've loved a Granitor figure http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/Granitor_...7_TV_series%29 I loved all the Dimension X characters, like General Traag.

Another kind of weird toy that would been fun would be the boss from the "Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang" http://scottmoviereviews.blogspot.co...episode-6.html

Cowabunga Carl 09-15-2012 04:12 PM

I would have loved a crooked ninja turtle gan set of figures.

MST3KFan 09-15-2012 04:49 PM

How about Bugman? Surprised he was never made as he popped up in a few episodes. Could have made a regular figure for him or even a Mutatin' one since he changed back and forth often.

Wes 09-15-2012 05:08 PM

I'm with Ninjinister -- mutatin' Leatherhead would have been siiiiiiiiick. And probably pretty easy to pull off, too!

How could I forget LH and Slash!

Cowabunga Carl 09-15-2012 05:54 PM

You know it is surprising we didn't get a mutating Slash as we got a mutating Tokka. It would have been as simple as swapping the head on that figure I would think. That is really a missed opportunity. Though does he have much of a following outside of the hard core TMNT fans?

Leatherhead is another one that I would never have thought about. Though his would have been a lot harder depending on which version we are talking about. I'm guessing we are talking about the OT one, which case the best, pants, and hat would have made it very tricky.

Jester 09-15-2012 06:02 PM

What I never understood was the Tokka role playing set, that was clearly Slash, but never released as such.
