Appraising your TMNT collection: How much is yours approximately worth?

Now for a challenge: Attempting to give a rough estimate of your collection in terms of its value, using the completed eBay listings as your best tool. Since values of items can vary considerably, its best to take the average value of items that sell. The best way to estimate is to do one category at a time (MOC figures, loose figures, comics, media, art/cells, and miscellangeous items), followed by adding them together to give the approximate value. That said, I'd say my TMNT collection is worth approximately $2500 with my rough estimate. I'd break it down as the following:

$500 Comics
$400 Animation Art
$350 DVD's/VHS
$100 MOC Figures
$450 Loose Figures
$400 Vehicles
$150 Episode/Movie II Scripts
$150 Miscellaneous (Magazines, lunch box, chapter/children's books, buttons, cards, other merchandise)

I've been meaning to do that myself... One of these days.

I think that this topic came up once before, and if I remember, some members were put off by it, claiming that the thread turned into a competition. That said, I'm not sure, but a lot. I have the Playmates statues, 2 sets of the Sideshow exclusives, almost 100% of the vintage figures MOC, 100% of the 2K3 figures MOC, the original arcade game, the complete TV and film series, plus countless other things like clothing, posters, stuffed animals, soap, blankets, towels, comics, video games, and more. I don't plan on ever selling any of these things, but if I did, I figure I could buy a new car.

Jeez, dude. Are you Bill Gates son?!

But anyway, I do like this question. Can't say I have ever calculated what my collection is worth, but I'd say a pretty penny if I were to sell it. I'd say a few grand. I never intend to retrieve that money though.

I did a rough estimate a few weeks ago of how much my Ninja Turtle collection was worth, and I just recently added over fifty complete figures since then, so my collection has gone up a bit. From what I've seen actually sell on ebay; I'd say my collection is worth from $1600 - $1800.

Archon_Turtle 09-19-2012 12:58 AM

It would take me forever to estimate. Though id imagine quite a bit...

Plus I've got some one of a kind stuff that I wouldn't know how to value. Like how much is a piece of the house Kevin and peter lived in when they created the ninja turtles worth? :p

Candy Kappa 09-19-2012 04:19 AM

probably less then what I paid for.

spiderpumpkin 09-19-2012 12:15 PM

My collection is worth a lot less than what I paid.

No, just devoted. And I collected a lot of that stuff before the lid flew off the prices. The early 2000s were great times for buying TMNT stuff on eBay.

savagejon123 09-19-2012 04:33 PM

900-1100 From what I've seen things sell for on ebay. Of course sometimes shipping is 50% of what you're paying. I figured in the entire amount people were willing to buy something for.

9.95 09-19-2012 06:18 PM

I'd say my collection is around a modest $75 to $90.

TheCanadiandrome 09-20-2012 12:51 AM

I'd say mines worth a few grand at least IMO, now if I got it professionally appraised it might be worth less or more than I can imagine

OA 09-20-2012 06:52 AM

You know, I actually have a spreadsheet that I've been maintaining since I started actively buying again back in the late 90's. Shows exactly what I have into everything (taxes, shipping, etc.). Been pretty faithful to it too over the years, though occasionally I lose track of an item or two. The amount I've spent....well, let's just say ALOT. That said, at this point, esp after all of my sales in the past few years, I can say that at the very least, my collection is worth more than I've put in. But since the majority of the artwork especially I'll never part with, it's worth really means very little.

tl;dr - Kiss my ass, no matter what ya'll post, I have you ALL beat! :trazz::tgrin:

As far as my collection, I honestly have no clue. I could conceivably tally up what I've spent along the past decade for my comics since I saved most of the receipts. I don't have too many of the 4Kids! series figures, but I have a vast majority of the original line from my youth, with the figures being complete because I was a stickler for knowing where the weapons were, along with a lot of miscellany I've acquired across the years (prints, posters, etc).

If I ever get things in order, I'd like to get my stuff out for display so I can see just what all I DO have, as most of my figures and playsets currently sits in 5 tubs/trunks in my closet, and the comics in several boxes.

Chris 09-22-2012 05:15 PM

I honestly have no idea. I have loads of vintage stuff (figures, vehicles and playsets) in my dad's attic, but none is mint, it's in good condition but it's all loved :tlol:

I'd say it may be worth roughly what was paid for it, give or take.

2K3 figures I have a few but not much (never took off enough in the UK) and all open, so probably a bit less than I paid for it, break even if I'm lucky. Same for 2K7.

I have the about half of the OT DVDs and the full 2K3 series (including the AUS BTTS and UK Turtles Forever) on DVD along with all the movies. TMNT I have on BR as well, will hopefully add the BR trilogy set in the near future. No idea what any of these are worth on the secondary market (probably not much) and no plans to sell so it doesn't really matter (no plans to sell anything for that matter, never have and probably never will).

Comics... Pretty much everything put out by IDW (not counting the trades of the IDW series or variant covers). The Farley covered collected books 1-5 (Book 1 signed by Kevin Eastman with a Leo sketch), all the remaining "canon"/in-house issues of Vol. 1 (including #50 signed by Kevin Eastman), all Vol. 2-4 (including the fan conclusion to Vol. 3 and the final $10 issues of Vol. 4 with Peter Laird sketches), all Tales Vol. 1 and 2 (apart from Tales #70 which is driving me nuts!), plus some other Vol. 1 issues, mini series and specials. I hope to finish the collection in the near future, but I know some things (like Gobbledygook and Turtlemania) will almost certainly always remain out of my price range. I'd guess I'd break even here, with some of the older items being worth more, but some of the more recent Tales maybe coming in a little less.

I have a few special pieces as well, like the Playmates Leo statue (meant to get the others as well but couldn't afford them at the time... big mistake!!), a Leo sketch from Kevin Eastman, and my TMNT prize possession - Kevin's cover for Previews featuring the classic and Nick TMNT. This is the one section of my collection where I'm pretty certain I'd be in profit, but it's also the one section I would never part with no matter what (and again, no idea what the market value for these would be, only what I paid for them).

Jester 09-22-2012 05:34 PM

My collection is probably worth about... $5.

In all seriousness, the most sought after piece I have is my $.50 Scratch. Everything else are my depreciating 2k3 figure collection (which I really am contemplating selling most of anyway), most of the TMNT DVDs (still haven't bought season 10 of NM volume 1.), and a few comics (I have a few Mirage, Image #1, some Archie and most of the New IDW.)

If it is collections that make the fan I may as well turn in my fan card....

Collections certainly don't make the fan. Just because someone can't afford a big collection doesn't mean they aren't a big fan. Let's be honest, toys, games, art, etc are all luxuries. I may like some of them more than eating but I still have to eat, I don't have to own luxuries (silly example I know, but the best I can do at midnight!)

Redrumh2o 09-22-2012 11:07 PM

Only what someone on eBay is willing to pay for it

Memphis 09-22-2012 11:14 PM

100 billion dollars... I'm lying... I don't know why I did it... Right now, probably a little more than a grand, without selling them at the "Collector prices".
