Why was April originally planned to be a blonde in Nick's show?

As people who have seen the very early concept art know, April is depicted as being blonde. Thankfully, her hair color was changed to the more usual orange/red color that April is usually depicted with.

I have to say that making April into a 16 year old girl AND making her blonde would have made her seem too much like an entirely different character.

For some reason the fact that she's a redhead makes her feel more like April, as in all universes outside of Mirage she has reddish hair to various degrees.

Why make April a blond?

Why make April a red Head?

Because they can

Why o I don't know

CyberCubed 09-23-2012 11:32 PM

The red hair has become April's default hair color in the shows, the blonde hair came out of nowhere.

Red-head April:

- Movies (especially Movie 4, she literally looks like a grown up version of Nick April there)
- Archie TMNT Adventures
- 4kids April
- IDW's comics April

I can't really count old toon April, even though Irma did call her a red-head in Rat King's debut ep.

Threadworthy thread is threadworthy....

You do realize that April started life as a brunette in Mirage, then FW made her a brunette with a little red, the movies she was a brunette, and 4kids is where she went pure red right?

If you define a character by their hair color there is a problem. To me April is more about being the Turtles link to the outside world. She is that sister/mother figure that they are lacking. A voice of reason outside of Splinter. She could be bald for all I care as long as the core of the character was there.

Cubed, I try to back you up when I can, but really, you ask questions & then answer them yourself in the same post. What's the point?

There is no answer to why she was *originally* planned to be blonde. We can assume they changed her to a red-head because that's how we're used to see April...but where did the original blonde idea come from?

I have to admit, if April stayed with blonde hair she wouldn't seem like April to me. The fact that she's 16 is a change but the red hair makes her look I dunno...more familiar?

Change for the sake of change, I imagine. What else would it be?

And new avatar made. Thank you Jester.

Wow, you really do like April, even if she's bald... :P

But why? What does having a different hair color take from the character?

I mean honestly it seems like the whole mask thing for the Turtles. Red or colored aren't they the same characters?

She'd be Renet or Joi for all intents and purposes. Still, April appears blondish in the first two NES games. They always could have started out blonde and then April could have dyed it red.

I can think of 63 million reasons entitling them to do whatever they want with the Nick show.

am I the only one who looks at April from the classic series and sees her as a redhead? Her hair looked brown only in a handful of episodes, and even then it more auburn than actually brown. All other times through-out the series her hair was more of a orangey-red hue that could look very bright or kind of muted in color for the most part. In Red Sky her hair looked kinda auburn though.

You could've easily said OT April was Dirty Blonde, I mean she's as much blonde as she is red head in the OT.

This logic makes no sense to me at all. How does simply changing a hair color change her into Renet? I think some people totally over react just so they can get attention.

what? Never did April look blond in the old series. Or do you mean she acted like a blond sometimes?

sdp 09-24-2012 09:36 PM

Occasionally it can look like dirty blonde. OT April is clearly brunette but you can make as much argument that she's red headed as dirty blonde. They're both stretching things though since she's clearly brunette.
