Official episode discussion: Rise of the Turtles, Part 1 and 2

Sure we have a special premier thread, but like the 4kids series, each new episode had its own official episode discussion thread. I'd recommend to sticky this thread. My spoiler tags will be removed after the show airs in the UK the following Monday. This thread is about the episode itself, not about programming.

Spoiler:
I've just finished washing the first episode, and it was a good start with the show. I enjoyed the animation since this is just going to be a Saturday morning series for the most part, and even the OT's wasn't that great. The street scenes and backgrounds are fantasticlly drawn. It's just that the humans could be improved, which I hope as the series progresses. I liked the tension towards the Turtles first going topside.

The first pizza reference was so funny when we saw Mike's brain explode, and then how as soon as he said that the pizza tastes terrible, the other Turtles quickly snatched it.

The Second Time About Antique store is a reference to Second Time Around in the Comics, Movies, and 4kids series.

This is the first episode in any TMNT universe since Planet of the Turtleoids, Part I in which April is kidnapped at episode's end. She is not mentioned by her name yet, as is a Kraang alien. I liked how Kraang can be disguised as humans, meaning that some clone plots are likely to be used.

Also, the Nick series returns to the three-act format from the OT, except that the theme comes partway through Act I.

We can finally say that the Turtles are back on TV!

aww this was great

I thought I would NEVER experience TMNT in a prime time slot!

I loved the whole show being 27 it paid homage to all old turtles

theme song has homage, mikey" that was us"... splinter with his lecture reminded me of the cop w/ donny in maltese hamster

splinter didnt decide who would be a leader right away

they didnt eat pizza off the bad

splinter is human in the beginning... the fights were great i like how they all use their weapons! no cutting or blood but raphs sai move was wicked

i just felt in heaven its great to have them back

people who do not like this show are not young at heart.. apperciate they are back

and yes i even liked DONNY w/ rob paulsens voice it fits much better.. similar to corey feldman in the tmnt movies... donny is the funny sarcastic dude

gunna be great cant wait til tomorrow!

Watched the preview it was great.Paulsen doing the voice of Donnie.New take on him.I think they were trying to find a voice similar to Berry Gordon and also a vetern of the original TMNT.So,I can live with that.Cipes as Mikie,he does a great job giving Mike a playfull attitude.Over all it was great.I am looking forward to the second part.

Really? Come on now...unless it made you laugh that hard, in which case, groovy.

I couldn't help but laugh at the Space Heroes scene when Leonardo was talking along.

The music in the beginning when they were showing part of the city and the sewer before the training kind of reminded of the the music The Next Mutation used when they did similar shots

Tears of laughter, I hope.

If not, you need help. A children's television show should not make you cry. :P

I don't think I've been this happy watching something since I watched Turtles Forever for the first time.

FoxZerro 09-28-2012 07:03 PM

Not sure if spoiler tags are needed, since people probably shouldn't be looking at the thread if they haven't see the episode, but for now I'll follow suit with the first post. Right now my only complaint is that I watched this sneak preview because now I have to wait 14 and a half hours to see how everything turns out.

Spoiler:

This episode was fantastic. I loved how the Krang were done and that they are a real threat as opposed to just canon fodder like the Foot Soldiers were in the OT. Loved the combination of hand drawn style animation with the 3D animation it broke up the flow rather nicely and I really hope that remains a staple through out the series.

I think my favorite part is that they got the fight between Leonardo and Raphael out of the way in the first moments of the episode, establish that bit right off the bat. Its especially nice when tempered against Leonardo being picked as the leader and his no hard feelings line. Its nice to see the best fighter does not mean best leader enter so early into the series.

I also love that they weren't victorious in their first battle, it gives these characters the chance to grow as opposed to starting them at the top of their game and having to come up with crazier and crazier villians each week to challenge them.

That's a foolish thing to say, if the show is good and hits you on an emotional level then you should be able to react accordingly.

I didn't see any. 'Course, I was tweeting during the commercials because I couldn't contain my excitement...but I'm sure I would have heard them and I didn't.

So I paid no attention to the credits :(

Any one know who wrote or directed this one?

Ha, I felt similarly.

shezcrafti 09-28-2012 07:12 PM

My only complaint is that it was too short. And that ending--what a tease!! Can't wait for tomorrow morning now.

Here's my official reaction GIF:

^ I'm pretty sure that's what I looked like the entire 30 minutes.
