Making a thread to post affiliate links is pretty lame, dude.

Powder 10-19-2012 09:12 PM

People know where to find this stuff...

Nick Kell 10-19-2012 09:42 PM

Sorry dudes, everyone seemed appreciative of other posts where people let others know when new stuff becomes available.

A relavent argument if you remove your amazon associates affiliate code from the links.

Oh, ok, sorry. If you're looking for them, I guess you can just search their names on Amazon. I thought links would be easier.

DonatelloFan 10-19-2012 10:21 PM

Easier, yeah. But it's blatantly obvious you're using an Amazon affiliate code, which in turn, makes you money for every purchase from those links. It doesn't make you look good, it makes it seem like you're just trying to make a few dollars. At least be up front about it. Or just use actual, normal links, not affiliate links.

Zulithe 10-19-2012 10:27 PM

here's what i do:

on the product's amazon page, there is a "share via e-mail" link on the right-hand side below the "More Buying Choices" box. Easy to spot by the icon of an envelope.

There you can find a Permalink to the item's amazon page. copy and paste it. Easy and done!

I personally do not mind associate links but you have to understand that a lot of people frown on that. Thanks though.

I use Amazon a ton, but what the hell is an affiliate link? Do you get bonus points for it? Cause I share Amazon links all the time with family and friends.

Zulithe 10-19-2012 10:39 PM

you sign up for their affiliate program and you get 10% anytime someone buys from something you link. the links are easy to spot because the affiliate codes are clear as day in the URLs.

websites and bloggers frequently do this to earn a substantial kickback. Roger Ebert was making over $100,000 a year by doing this at one point. He's link all kinds of stuff he found interesting on his twitter account. then they changed the affiliate program in his state (to fight taxes i believe) and he got pretty ticked about it.

Thats brilliant. I wont run around posting those all over the place on sites like this and I totally understand why its off limits here, but this is genius. I will use this from now on in other areas.

Question though. What stops 2 people from sharing those links back and forth and always getting 10% off?

DonatelloFan 10-20-2012 12:00 AM

You don't get 10% off, you get a certain percentage (and I don't remember it being 10%, more like 4-6%) put into an account if you will. After something like 3 months I think, you can withdraw the money you earned through the links.

Zulithe 10-20-2012 12:13 AM

It is up to 10% and regardless it adds up very fast if you have an audience. For regular people it is pretty useless to even try, you'd have to spend a lot of time planting links to see a level of return to make it worth doing.

You mean a 10% kickback (in best-case scenario), well i'm sure they have planned for this in the fine print somehow. either way amazon gets more sales so they probably don't discourage it to that great an extent.

nelodiavolo 10-22-2012 11:47 PM

Well thanks OP for the heads up. But yea I don't log in or buy products when people link them. I just went to Amazon myself and found it. ;)

Anyway, in for one Metalhead!

Nothing is stopping those people except for the fact that they would have to buy something. Clicking the links does nothing, making the purchase after clicking the link is when you get your kickback.
