Tubed sets were sold in the U.S. at one point as well as the clamshells and boxes.

I definitely wouldn't trust buying any on ebay that come from China, which nearly all on ebay do most of the time. I saw one on ebay from TX, but he mentioned he got them from Hong Kong, so I bailed out of that.

The dead giveaway is that they have so many to sell, when there weren't that many produced. They're supposed to be rare, heh. Any from US you should snag though, which these appear to be from actionnate.

I made a serious offer on these on the condition that they are not the bootlegs. The question is how do you tell them apart in the packaging? The shell color looks the same as the Hong Kong ones on eBay. That seems to be the biggest give away historically to me. Anyone else have an opinion on the legitimacy of these?

ActionNate, please don't take offense to this post, as my offer still stands if I can get some verification here.

I understand Wanting to be sure... I bought these here in the US at no point were they ever in hong kong or in china.... These I assure you have the correct ball joints and coloring .... you can see that up close ... Take another look at the forum I posted in the PM

All the 'bootleg' talk is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. For those who don't know, the whole plan for the tubes was to MASS produce the sets. If you think the production facilities in China (where they're manufactured) suddenly decided to toss their HUGE backlog of these turtles in the ocean once the line was ended and they could no longer sell the product, you're kidding yourselves.

The truth is probably more like this: Chinese sellers caught wind of the fact that these figures were selling like hotcakes in the US and they were easy to come by due to the sheer volume of leftover product. Now they're flooding eBay.

People seem to think if they find a bad paint job or part, they must be bootlegs. Not really solid logic when I can walk in Walmart tomorrow and point out the exact same thing with the new Playmates line.

I noticed someone uploaded a picture of a new Leo with none of his teeth painted. Must be Chinese bootlegs.

This isn't to say no one is trying to sell bootlegs, I'm sure we know better. But to think every set coming from China is a bootleg is asinine. Just my two cents.

I think he meant his own weren't the bootlegs, and that the ebay ones were.

Pretty sure this picture sums it up and proves it's more than just a bad paintjob...the figure itself is different, do the research, or check that thread posted above:

This happens in production facilities every single day. A bad figure/sculpt/part/paint job does not equal a bootlegged product. None of them are going to be exactly the same. Some flaws will be minor, some will be major.

I've heard from people with the comic con boxed sets that have loose joints or bad paint jobs. You can even go on eBay and find figures with the wrong parts or boxes in the clam-shell packages, not tubes.

There is a biiiiig thread in the toy section with tons of proof. There are a lot of distinctions to be made between the two.

actionnate 12-05-2012 11:26 AM

OK .... well now that it was settled these are not fakes .... not sure if I have a buyer or not :tlol:

Coro 12-05-2012 01:21 PM

I honestly don't care if they are bootlegs or not, but I don't want to spend more than eBay bootleg prices for the same thing located in the US. I want these for display purposes, so bootleg or not doesn't really matter.

HOWEVER, I was talking to my wife and she flipped out when I told her I wanted to buy them, and told me not to buy any more TMNT stuff until after Christmas. I can read between the lines there so I need to wait till then...

LMFAO..Imagine?!
I'll probably purchase the ones on eBay selling from Honk Kong. Will keep you guys posted.

Threat 12-13-2012 07:19 PM

Just received them and without opening them they are in fact the bootleg ones. Whoever sold them to you lied to you or got them from someone else.

Very disappointing :(

Leo's bandanna is exactly the same as the bootleg one in this video and both Leo and Mike have that same black line at the top of the front shell. And all 4 turtles have a bluish back shell rather than green:
