Color Classics Michaelangelo Micro (Merry Christmas!)

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56...CropBetter.jpg

Figured I'd start a thread for this since I didn't see one already.

I'm really glad IDW took the trouble to recolor this one, as I'm sure the snowflakes didn't make it easy. And it's really nice that they scheduled its release right in time for Christmas!

I was a little bit surprised that IDW decided to stick with the original spelling for Michelangelo's name, but I guess they've probably been following that trend on all the reprints thus far.

Here's a few preview pages for those who haven't seen 'em yet:

This has always been my favorite page in the whole issue.

I was curious as to how they would color Klunk. Looks like they envisioned him as a grey cat.

God bless us, every one!

I wish they would have colored Klunk properly. ...& Shredder. Let's get some accuracy, guys.

Yeah, there have been some strange decisions like that. I'm curious as to whether they'll stick with the grey palette if they recolor any more issues that feature Klunk.

I'm kinda surprised IDW is still pumping out these Color Classics though. I was under the impression they weren't selling terribly well.

Thank me :P

There was some confusion at IDW back in like August about original printing order and this wasn't going to come out until January, but I let Bobby know in time and they fixed it.

I'm gonna pick it up this Wednesday with the rest of my stuff, and it's the only color classic book I'm buying because I'm a sucker for Christmas stuff. Then again, I feel like "Kirby and the Warp Crystal" will look really cool in color so I might snag that too.

This has always been one of my favorite issues, and I really enjoyed the colorization on it. Really enjoyed it.

Matches Malone 12-09-2012 05:23 PM

Looks like they retained the full wrap-around cover for this one, which is cool. Is this the first one they've done that for?

I believe so. It was pretty disappointing on the other issues, especially issue 5 where half the bar wasn't present.

Well thank you, 2the9s !

The Raphael Micro is the only other Color Classic I've bought. And I do intend to get the Donatello Micro if they release for the same reason you mention. I guess I'll wait and see what the Leo Micro looks like and decide if I want to complete the whole set.

Yes! I was so glad they did that; it really does make the piece feel like a Christmas Special!

When has Mirage Klunk ever been in color before?

EDIT: Oh it looks like the cover of "The Path" had him orange... was that before or after he showed up in 4Kids though?

ToTheNines 12-09-2012 10:24 PM

He's orange on the (second printing) cover of the Mikey Micro.

Edit: I just checked and he's actually almost white on that cover.

Yep, Klunk looks like a regular snowball on that one!

I think we could call that a light grey and give IDW the benefit of the doubt. Ironic that Mirage is the one who really messed up the coloring consistency when they made him Orange on Tales #9, though I do kinda prefer him as a tabby.

I'm no market expert but I think they are. Just looked at the November sales numbers and the last color classics issue sold about 500 less than IDW's Ghostbusters (awesome book).

Granted, it's getting a new #1 in February but it's considered a ok selling book that IDW has to pay a writer, artist, editor, colorist, variant cover artist for. Whereas the color classics just cost them a coloring job and printing expenses.

I'm a very disheartened that the new IDW Ghostbusters series isn't flying off the shelves. That book deserves better.

I'm really enjoying the coloring on this issue!! :D

arizvega 12-10-2012 04:30 PM

That looks cool. I love the TMNT comic books...

CyberCubed 12-10-2012 09:22 PM

If they ever collect these color classics in a collection, (and I believe Tom Waltz let it slip that they were), I just really hope they re-color Shredder in issue #1.

Making him wear blue I don't mind, (thought still odd), but giving him a full body suit and painting his hands blue to make it look like he was wearing gloves or something was disturbing.

Ninjinister 12-10-2012 09:28 PM

I find that black and white books have a hard time keeping consistency on color, since most of the time the characters only show up in color on the cover. Akira Toriyama changed skin colors on about a dozen characters when he did art for the covers of a touched up version of DragonBall. Then again, this is the man that's forgotten his own major characters....

Speaking of which, anyone think Simultaneous will be green again?

Anyone have a shot of how Shredder was colored? #1 is the only one I never found (and it pisses me off since I love my collection of #1 reprints).

Yeah, damn shame... that book is certainly firing on all cylinders.

RaphaelsIsolation 12-10-2012 09:59 PM

Yeah I've been hearing that the CC issues aren't that good.

Why is this? Just because the coloring is different from what we would expect? Not sure.

This issue looks cool. I'm glad IDW is pumping this stuff out. I didn't see this one at the shop today
