FALL 2012 TMNT Retro Figure Pkg Designs!
Hey Everyone,
I know I don't post a lot on this forum (and when I do, I sometimes upload my pictures correctly!), but when I do, I do it for big reasons... So, this semester, I taught my Adobe InDesign/Graphic Design class again at Santa Ana College. I did my TMNT Package Designs Project again this semester, so I wanted to share the final results with everyone and get your VOTES so I can let my students know what you all think! Keep in mind, they are not necessarily Turtle Fans and that is why I chose to have them work on something like this... to really test their creativity. I came into the classroom with a big box of TMNT Figures from my own collection. I laid them all out across a big table in a conference room down the hall and asked my students to come in and choose their favorite figure. Then, I gave them reference images, logo files, photographs, etc. and asked them all to design and produce a 3-Dimensional package to hold and display their chosen figures. So, I would love any comments and votes you have, nonetheless. By the way, if you don't want to view all of the images here, you can also check them all out on my Ninja Turtle Action Figures Blog at: www.tmntfigures.blogspot.com THANKS! - Chris http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pjpu-Dm0HK...o/s1600/10.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cLcDM0AeMG...8/s1600/11.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YofdDCG1Xj...0/s1600/12.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FA8CXUf-tn...w/s1600/13.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xLgR-W9iXe...E/s1600/14.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lw_K1W_IR6...M/s1600/15.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jIdJHDSUeI...Q/s1600/16.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rw7KXDwddQ...M/s1600/17.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AvxagI-k0b...k/s1600/18.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ocamlqhpNs...g/s1600/19.jpg |
THE OTHER TMNT Package Designs
Sorry, but I guess I am only allowed to post 10 images at a time, so here are the other figures for your consideration!....

So, there you go... again, let me know what you think! THANKS! |
1 is my favorite
|
All of them are great and unique, but Ace Duck is my favorite!
|
These are all so good. But if i have to choose i would say i think the Ace Duck package looks the best.
I think it just stands out above the rest. |
ace duck, fugitoid, wingnut and screwloose, splinter. i like those, in that order. ace duck is the snazziest, while also seeming the most viable hanging on a peg in a store. the others look nice and have fairly simple packaging, without being as boring or plain as most of the others. awesome idea for an assignment, btw! :D
|
gotta say, that's some outstanding work by your students.
and like the others, that ace duck one stands out the most. and I'm really liking the leonardo one, fugitoid, rat king are awesome as well. :D |
This is a great project. The outcome was incredible with so many different styles. Love this type of thing wish I could have done a project similar back in art school. Nice work to all!

pizza is yummerz
|
damn those are wicked!
|
My Top 3 in order:
Ace Duck Ratking Raphael A few of them were really good, but just missing something here or there to really push them over the edge for me Case in point, Undercover Donnie was a great idea, but he needed some die cut logos on the front of the packaging, otherwise it's just a display case. General Traag was good too but needed a starburst or something other than plain white behind the figure and I felt the Traag artwork could be moved over the window a bit more to show more art on the front of the box. |
#19 &# 4 are the best IMO.
|
everyone loves Ace Duck's the best, as do I. Pretty sweet dude.
|
Ace Duck is the illest, no doubt about it. Fugitoid comes in second for me, I think. These are all pretty rad, but I gotta say I think last years students did an overall better job, no disrespect intended. Either way, it's a really cool project and I'm happy you've shared it with us two years in a row. :)
|
Gotta go with Ace Duck on this one. Followed by Fugitoid then Ratking. All of these packages look good.
|
Yeah I like quite a few as well but I'm going to have to go with Ace Duck as the best.
|
I liked the Ace duck one the best and Rocksteady and Fugitoid after that! Cool stuff though!
|
Ace Duck all the way!
|
Ace Duck is great, the way that the accessories are featured on the packaging is nice I imagine if these figures were coming out today that is pretty much what the packaging would look like.
In terms of just retro appeal the General Tragg package is amazing. I love the gun crossing over the cellophane pane, it just reminds me so much of classic toy packaging design and really just made me want to go out and buy the figure all over again. My aboslute favorite though has to be the Fugitoid. Mostly because it doesn't look at all like it is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure and I like to think it is a glimpse of what might have been had the adventures of our Professor Honeycutt taken the forefront instead of the TMNT. Great work all around, but I have to say my biggest pet peeve looking at these is when they don't identify the character in the box. Just rubs me the wrong way, and its one of the reasons why King Lionheart, who again seemed to stand on his own as a property didn't get a mention |
WoW! In love with a few of the designs that caught my eyes.
TOP 3: 1) ACE DUCK (Sick design!) 2) FUGITOID (Very creative!) 3) RAPHAEL (Would have been Hotter if his name was displayed on the front). The rest did an awesome job. Your students have an incredible imagination, skills, and technique to be creative in the work of art design plus the challenge you have given them to achieve. |
