Where did the rumors start of an OT revival/film?
I was looking though TMNT Wikia of the 1987 OT Series and if you look at the section "Status of the 1987 TMNT TV Series", it said that ever since Nickelodeon acquired the rights of the series that "rumors began to circulate regarding a possible revival or new film. As of November 2012, those rumors remain unconfirmed."
http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/Teenage_M...7_TV_series%29 The way how TMNT Wikia portrays it, it seems that these "rumors" are implying a possible consideration of new shows or a new film. These "rumors" suggest something almost similarly with the Jetsons, in how they were popular in the mid 60s and then was revived 20 years later for a couple of years in the mid 80s and had a film in 1990. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetsons Do any of you guys know if there was anything substantial to these rumors besides wishful thinking and maybe Nickelodeon re-airing old episodes? (I know the webpage can be easily edited, but I was wondering if anybody out there heard anything. Personally, I don't think so because Nickelodeon is obviously too focused on their CGI series and I doubt they have the resources to make a whole new production of OT episodes/film. If somehow that miraculously did occur though, it's a whole other issue if they can maintain the tone of the OT where the "Red Sky episodes" and "Turtles Forever" disappointed.) |
I never even saw that rumor here. I'm sure it's 100% bull. Turtles Forever is as good as it gets, I figure.

That "revival" is the 2012 series that's currently airing, and the "new film" is the Michael Bay one currently under development. Its just too confusing to have both styles airing at the same time. But for all intents and purposes, the OT era is just an "oldie" in which most of the stuff we already know both on and off screen has been discussed and the series had a fair enough ending. The only little rumor was around 2007-08 which led into Turtles Forever when there was talk about "bringing back the old Turtles".

They're not rumors, they're real. The Nick show is airing right now and a movie is in development, aiming for a May 2014 release.

pretty much. i think the wording used is a little weird, but it seems to be referring to the new ongoing series and upcoming flick.

Thanks everybody, like "zodiac brave" said, the wording is weird since the "rumors" are within the OT TMNT Wikia page and don't distinguish the difference between itself and the CGI series made and the upcoming Michael Bay film. It's just that the unconfirmed rumors as of Nov. 2012 threw me for a bit (since the CGI series is out already)...unless its referring to Michael Bay's film of alien Ninja Turtles from another dimension that also has Krang in it, which would be the only connection to the OT. **groans hearing the oxymoron of "Michael Bay" and "film" put next to each other** LOL |
yeah, man. i also simply wouldnt trust anything on the TMNT wikia...so much false information and speculation from here posed as fact. :(

Unless Nick makes a sequel to "Turtles Forever," I doubt we'll see anything new with the OT Turtles again.
Its almost impossible since the Nick show is in CG, they'd have to make the previous Turtles CG as well and it wouldn't be the same. |
I think we (OT fans) would agree that it would be awesome as hell if they did bring it back, especially with the old cast, for a season or two.
|
I'd love to see an animated movie set after the events of Season 10, where Shredder and Krang return one last time with a fully powered up Technodrome to take over the Earth. General Traag, Baxter, Rat King and Leatherhead would all be in it as well as Bebop/Rocksteady.
It'd give the OT universe an epic ending. |
DTV's would rock. I wanna see an animated version of Turtles in Time.
|
Yeah man I've been speaking out for a TIT (yes that acronym is a very unfortunate but funny one) DTV for a minute now. That'd be the illest.
|
To me the "Big" trilogy of episodes was satisfying for a movie of sorts. Or Planet of the Turtleoids.

:-?...I wonder who proposed or what the reasoning was, as to why the Jetsons were revived 20 years afterward to have the same tone and not reinvented, considering the cultural and generational changes, unlike the several toon versions of TMNT. |
I think the only way the OT series could continue is through DVD/blu-ray movies. It is the most viable option.
|
I wouldn't want it revived unless David Wise was the writer.
Turtles Forever proves you need writers who actually worked on the OT to know what they were about. I get the feeling David Wise would be able to write an excellent conclusion to the series if given the chance. |
