Weapons
As seen in some Episodes Michelangelo can transform his Nunchukus into Kusarigama and Donatello can make his Bo into a Naginata.
What do you guys think of this new Weapons? Do you think it is stupid to break with the old traditions of the weapons they have always been in use? For my part i really like the change. Kusarigama and Naginata are one of my favorite Weapons of japanese history and i really love that the two Turtles who had only "hit" weapons can use blade-weapons now. It is also a good thing, that they made the weapons like modifications, and not drop theyr old weapons instead. Negative: Michelangelo seems not skilled enough for a kusarigama. It went always wrong as he used this weapon in the show. I think they should add more seriously or talent into michelangelos character in this show.. At the time now, i think Michelangelo is a total goof and much weaker than his brothers. Donatellos Naginata had only one appereance so far, if i can remember... it wasn't shown much fighting with it...i hope there will come more scenes. These Weapons also come with the Nick. Action Figures, do you think Leo and Raphs weapon will be modificated too in future episodes? Because Leo and Raph Figures also comes with alternative weapons... |
I think Mikey's held his own just fine, in fights with enemies. I still point back to the episode when Bradford showed up. But I would like to see an episode where Splinter teaches him to focus...
I only have Mike and Metalhead figures, so I can't speak for their other weapons. What do they look to be? |

I really like the new weapons, the only thing that annoys me is that we never get to properly see how they transform them. I can understand Donnie's, but not Mikey's
|
Maybe because there is no logical explanation to this. How would you hide a 9 feet long chain in a nunchuck-cylinder?

Haven't we only seen Don using his blade like ones, and it broke right away?

It look like a katana but it could also be a broadsword..We have no compare to the size of the action figure... Why would they give to the action figure an extra katana as an alternative weapon? Then he would have three..and the other turtles have all different alternative weapons? .. Maybe someone who has this Leo figure can help here? is it a normal sword or is it taller/bigger ?
Here is a picture of Leo holding this alternativ weapon: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GjCYq-sxcC...2012tmnt32.jpg Edit: just found that picture http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attach...713_182214.jpg It seems the one sword is a bit longer... Oh and before i forget: look at the third weapon of Donatello.. Obviously the staff can become flexible as seen in the picture i've posted above. Edit 2: Damn, as more i look on this action figures i really want to purchase them and ink them myself |
I really like them both as it gives them a bit more of a fairer chance at playing offense. So far it seems Mikey's done a pretty decent job at mixing up the old with the new effectively so I'm pretty happy with his changes, but I've been sadly disappointed with Donnie's bo, blade or no.
It often seems like even the writers at Nick don't take his weapon very seriously since it feels like its always snapping, burning, being crushed, completely backfiring on him or is otherwise just completely useless. The bo staff is a powerful weapon in the hands of a master (which, like his brothers are, I do believe Donnie is), yet its proven to be actually useful maybe twice the whole season. I had hoped by giving it a blade maybe that would up his effectiveness with it at some point or another, but nada. I know Donnie's a genius and all and he contributes a lot with his gadgets, but its like the writers have just plumb forgotten that he can physically fight too. |
I thought those bos were made with concrete inside, IRL. Am I crazy? Is that just nunchucks?
Donnie could totally have the metal bo from the movies. It just wouldn't have that kinda signature look... |

I think it would just help if Don uses his alternative Bo-shapes more often. Okay, Fire burns wood, Alien technology also...But it would give him a little bit more chances..

I like Mikey's and Don's weapons, but I agree that Don hasn't really used his as much. But Mikey has been very effective with his and has used it a lot. I think one of my favorite times he used it was when he was hanging Shredder by the sign. That was awesome.

Attachment 3910 Donnie's staff is supposed to be six feet tall. If it really is a six foot staff in these screenshots that puts Donnie at around 6'3 and splinter close to 7 foot. What. |
I don't really like them breaking tradition. Leo and Raph have the cutting weapons, Mikey and Don have the bashing weapons. This created a fun distinction between the turtles. I really disliked the episodes where Donny was disappointed in his bo staff and it kept breaking. The fact that he could use what was on the surface an underwhelming weapon made Donny all the cooler. Why not give Leo and Raph some AK47s? Why not start an arms race? No, you make do with what you have. Keep the weapons the same. Eastman and Laird struck gold with their original designs. No need to tamper with them. :tmad:

Leo's third Katana is about the same length of his primary katana, nothing special about it.

You don't cut with something that don't have a sharp edge, like a Sai for example. |
I really like the new look of the weapons, it gives them a little bit more of a badass look. I just wish Don's Bo wouldn't seem to break as easily.
