Yeah, I saw that on a fan site once.. dumb, huh?

Yep!

Not only is it anti-Turtles, but it's anti-Batman and anti-Ghostbusters. And the turtle in the picture has four fingers. But what angers me the most is that his name is Phil Phillips and that's just ridiculous and wrong.

The movie is filled with curse words, has a reporter who dresses like a hooker, and is extremely violent.
:o Wow, which TMNT movie did he see, and where can I find it?

I read this years ago and pretty much thought the same thing.

I rather curious to know something, though. At exactly what point did miniskirts and high-heals become 'hooker clothes'? I've seen professional business-women wear the same thing to work every day.

And approximately three occurrences of the word 'damn' is enough to consider the movie 'filled with curse words'? Give me a break.

Bizarre how different people can see such different things in the same movie.

It's people like him that made the 2 sequels children's movies.

Peanut 06-03-2003 01:45 PM

That was weak. His arguments have nothing to support them. He's just babbling on about stuff he obviously doesn't know anything about.

PWDESAI 06-03-2003 02:17 PM

What's sad is because it has a hot property (at the time) on the cover, most people would pick it up, and some even believe the garbage. I really really really want him to check out mtv or comedy central. I wonder what this guy thinks of the internet?
It's all porn violence and swear words. Your kids should not be on the internet because it will hypnotize them.

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-03-2003 02:53 PM

Is it me, or does this guy seem REALLY prejudiced against asian culture and non-Christian spiritual beliefs?

Here I go onto my rant about how it's not the TV that teaches, it's the parents and their ways.

OK, for starters, anybody who uses the TV as a babysitter is stupid in the first place. The TV was designed at first just as a means of relaying important information visually, it just later evolved over time into what we consider it today. I'm not saying there shouldn't be shows/programs specially made for the younger auidience, I'm saying that parents should do a better job of rearing their kids the right way first.

I'll use myself as an example: ever since I was about 5 years old (maybe earlier) my mom and dad did the best they could to have me reading at an early age, be cognizant of the world around, and to know the distinction between reality and fantasy, the latter of which I can sadly say hasn't happened to most of peers even at this age now. Because of that, they had no problem with taking me and my older sister to R-rated movies, just so long as we were accompanied by them. It basically went like this: if I or my sister turned away at a "scary" part and started whining things like "THE BOOGEYMAN WILL GET ME!!!!", they would turn back to me and comfort me by saying something like, "Brent, do you see that? That's not real. Nothing in a movie is real. It's only made to look real for dramatic purposes. Don't worry, it'll never happen, just don't imitate the behavior, because it's not real."

The problem today is that a vast majority of parents don't do anything like that; they completely ignore their kids, allow them to watch almost as much TV as they want them to, and yet COMPLETELY shield them from stuff that's remotely above their age level. It makes me sick every time a parent won't allow his or her 5-year-old to see a movie just because it's rated PG. THAT'S where the problem lies; these kids turn violent and whatnot because the TV teaches them, not the parents as they should.

If anything, the MMPR have caused a hell of a lot more problems with kids turning "violent" than the TMNT did. That's actually a proven fact. At least the kids followed the TRUE marital arts way from the original series (never fight unless someone else starts), whereas the Power Rangers just did nothing but FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. Just goes to show you that indeed the East Asian philosophy is much better than the modern-American one :D

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-03-2003 03:35 PM

I agree with everything Rez just said!!! Including that last part.

Karpo_007 06-03-2003 04:34 PM

Well I can understand that first movie was to violent for some of the parents who were wating for something goofy like the cartoon. But I have heard claims that say old cartoon was to violent for children! That is very funny comment, Ducktales had more violence than old TMNT show.

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-03-2003 04:40 PM

When my Mother took my friend Seth and I to see it, She was relieved it was violent and dark and not goofy like the cartoon. She even said "That's a good Martial arts movie. Your Dad would like it.". She was right my Father still loves it. He's now a bit of a Casey fan! He's who took me to the second and third ones. He wasn't really pleased with them.

Karpo_007 06-03-2003 04:50 PM

New show uses the same fromat, Good Storytelling and real developing characters combined with good humour. It seems the new miniseries wil be that way to.

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-03-2003 04:52 PM

YAY!!! :D :D

Karpo_007 06-03-2003 04:55 PM

It's very good that Steve Barron is involved, some say that he is the one we should thank for the greatness of first movie.

Kameko 06-03-2003 05:49 PM

I like your argument Rez.

Y'know, I think it's funny. I've heard alot of stuff about how anime is so bad for children -- it's violent, it's gory, there's swear words, there's sex... And all I can think is: No freakin' kidding! A lot (most?) anime isn't MEANT for kids, but parents just assume that because it's a cartoon, it's kid fare.

But something else I've come to notice is that Japanese parents apparently don't shield thier children nearly as much as American parents do (or claim too, anyway...).

Take Sonic X for example. In the second episode, 15-year-old Sonic very clearly spits out the s-word (and in front of six-year-old Cream, which wasn't particularly good judgement on his part, but that's not my point). There's another scene in another episode where he taunts Eggman in such a way that I know that clip will be cut when it's brought to the states. But Sonic X isn't really JUST for adults -- it's not nearly as 'adult' as other animes I've seen (Silent Mobius, Serial Experiments Lain, etc.) -- it's obviously aimed, at least partially, towards kids.

*sigh* I just don't get the censors. Parents should be the ones responsible for keeping an eye on what thier kids watch, not the government. If a cartoon is too grown-up for your kid, DON'T LET THEM WATCH IT, and QUIT RUINING IT FOR THE REST OF US! :flaming:

This also brings up the fact that I've quickly learned that I far prefer to watch the original Japanese version of shows, with the option of English subtitles, than to watch the American versions that have been chopped to hell and 'kiddie-subbed'.

*re-reads her post* Wow. What a rant. I feel better now.
