Power Con 2013

anyone going? my gf and i have already started saving up for the travel and expenses. it's only $50 for the 3 day pass, so it's really about making sure we can actually get there, eat and have some spending cash.

if you dont know, it's a he-man, she-ra, thundercats (and for the first time in 2013) a tmnt themed con being held in mid-september in torrance, ca.

if anyone else is going, maybe we can do a dromer meet up or lunch or dinner or something.

this is gonna be my second con ever and first since 1998. its gonna be dope!

I've never heard of it before but since it's only a few hours away from me I'm a bit intrigued by it. Though 5 hours and the money it would require might be a bit much for me at the moment for what would essentially be solely a TMNT con as I don't really have any interest in any of the other shows that the con is made for. Still, I do hit up the local anime con every year even though I have relatively zero interest in anime anymore, so maybe this might be a nice switch up from the usual. In any case it'd be nice to know there are Turtle fans just as geeky as I am.

I wish the website had more information on it, but I'll show it to my sister who'd probably want to go with me. It still sounds pretty cool and since it's far away enough we'll have time to work things out if we really want to go :)

I've always wanted to hit PowerCon. Everything Ive heard from it makes it sound great.

Heh. I used to hang out on He-Man.org waaaaaaay back in the day, and to be honest, the 16 year old nostalgic dweeb in me kind of wants to go this year. But with C2E2 and possibly other conventions in the Midwest, and the fact it's in California... I may have to pass.

'Sides, I'm more of a fan of the 2k12/Nick TMNT, so that complicates things. =V

Oh I'd so love to go...but alas I live on the other side of the country...:ohwell:

Bocce 01-24-2013 06:11 PM

I've never heard of it either, but not to far from me.

I know, right? Has it really been 10 years? Jeesh. I remember spending late nights in the .Org's chat room. Man, I was such a ditz back then.... fun times.

Anyhow, to sort of keep this on topic, to those who have gone the last 2 years: does this feel like one of those podunk-y cons (I went to Mid-Ohio-Con in '07, before they were bought up by Wizard, and it was def. podunky: barely any panels, few celebrities, mostly hinged around the dealers room, and lots of Stormtroopers) or is there some major substance to it?

Zulithe 01-25-2013 05:23 AM

Hmmm it's down there near Santa Monica... I see... well, I live in the bay area so I usually go to Wondercon... BUT this year and last year they moved Wondercon to Anaheim due in part to construction in 2012 and now in 2013 due to politics. No word on if they will come back to San Francisco in 2014 :(

It's really frustrating when your local con decides to move SO FAR away to where attending is a huge pain in the butt. So no, no conventions for me this year. Siiigh.

I am saving up for a Disneyland trip so I can't go out of my way to attend a niche con like this right now... hope you guys have fun and report back with lots of great pics.

I would love to go to power con but as one Dromer put it it's just to dang far.

P.S. if anyone is going to Power con and Rob Pauslen is signing. Could someone get my his sig? I missed a change to get one when I met him in TN.Again, would really appreciate it. If you do met him he is a great guy.

I'm planning on going to Farpoint near Baltimore President's weekend to see Rob Paulsen, and my family won't be going to CA until 2014-15, so this is a pass, despite being close to LAX. Zodiac Brave, your home con is Lonestar Comic Con, and a couple TMNT alumni, including the original voice of April O'Neil (Renae Jacobs), Jan Rabson (Kurma from the Turtleoids episodes), and Robbie Rist (Moive Michelangelo) are attending.

thanks, pannoni. i'm aware of it and actually kinda wanna go to meet jason david frank, the original green/white ranger, but considering my love of thundercats and tmnt, power con's where im really gonna focus on attending. lonestar con is just about 45 mins-to an hour away in austin, but considering ive rarely left my state and never been to ca, my gf and i are making a mini-vacation outta this.

I love He-man, She-Ra, and ThunderCats! He-man is my favorite toy line and cartoon series of all time. However, I don't live even close to Power-Con so I definitely will not be attending. To be honest, I'm not really a "convention guy" so, unless it was held down the street from where I live, I most likely wouldn't go anyway. Though, I must admit, it sounds pretty neat.

King Kahn 01-27-2013 04:06 PM

I'm def going. I went to the last two cons and had a blast. I love that tmnt has been added into the mix.

Coola Yagami 01-27-2013 05:11 PM

man, I would have loved to have gone, especially the idea of us having some sort of Technodrome Forum lunch so we can meet and greet. But yeah, Cali is just too far and I don't really see it happening.

figdonpat 01-29-2013 09:05 PM

I don't think I'll be able to make it (other side of the country). Would any of you be interested in coming on the show after the con to talk about it? I know it's still several months out but we'd love to have some fans on our show to discuss it afterwards.

zkarlette 01-29-2013 09:09 PM

Now that they included the TMNT I'm totally checking it out!
