Bebop and Rocksteady Conquer the Universe

Episode #82 "Bebop and Rocksteady Conquer the Universe"
Original Air Date: September 15, 1990

This episode is one of my all time favorites, atleast for season 4.

The turtles face their fears and comes to the rescue when needed, despite being beemed by Rocksteadys anxiotron ray, by which makes them helplessly afraid of virtually everthing. Thus showing true depths to their bravery and heroism.

It's a Bebop and Rocksteady centered episode for once and we get to witness shredder and krang being subjugated to the anxiotron rays effect as an interesting twist to the usual storyline.

The animation is fantastic! Especially the villians, with emphasis on rocksteady and Bebop. The background music is dramatic and well placed for each represented situation. Moreover, the fight with the turtles and the treasonous hench mutants is just EPIC!

Is this the one with the giant robot of Gorgonzolla? I wish Casey Jones was in this episode instead of Zack.

Bebop/Rocksteady got to star in a lot of episodes, there's also the one where they become Rhinoman and Warthog Boy during the superhero contest.

# Yes it is.

# I know, but still.

I loved how Rocksteady and Bebop turned the tables on their masters.

Shredder/Krang's VA's really did excellent job with their "scared" voices.

Shredder especially sounded hilarious.

I love how Bebop and Rocksteady are threatening to Splinter, as during season 1.

When I first saw this episode, those red circles the ray makes reminded me of the Eye of Sarnath on Shredder's helmet, since its circles look alike.

I kinda wish Shredder could have used the ray instead of spending the whole episode being scared.

I think my favorite Bebop/Rocksteady episode was the one in season 3 with their cybernetic counterparts.

"Super Rocksteady and Mighty Bebop"

I love that episode...mainly because I used to have a kids book based off of it

Super Bebop & Mighty Rocksteady (or was it Super Rocksteady & Mighty Bebop?)

The name of the episode is Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady but the actual robot mutants were called Super Rocksteady and Mighty Bebop.

Would make more sense, since they were "Rhino-Man" and "Mighty Warthog" in the "Adventures of Rhino-Man".

I think they named the episode wrong. I think it should have been named Super Rocksteady and Mighty Bebop.

I think the title thing may be a play on how Shredder and Krang refer to them. Shredder often called them Bebop and Rocksteady while Krang called them Rocksteady and Bebop.

I'm a big fan of this episode. The animation is much better than usual for this series, and I loved the whole Gorganzola schtick.

Actually Bebop called himself Mighty Hog, but later in the episode Hungerdunger called him Warthog Boy by mistake.

cammy85 01-30-2013 09:48 AM

Rhino-nose and Warthog Boy. :)

pannoni1 02-01-2013 10:36 AM

Shredder's feelings after that ray struck him aren't those unlike toward the end of Super Bebop & Mighty Rocksteady when he also feels like a coward. It also answers the "what if?" had the Turtles been mesmerized in that episode, as this episode exploits symptoms of high anxiety that a psychologist would enjoy this episode. The Splinter rescue was especially dramatic, as I thought he was going to get crushed by a train the way it was heading, except that cartoon physics allows extra time. Nevertheless, it still makes me a bit scared when I see people walking on train tracks.

Good. Railroad tracks are no playground. There are some people (circa late teens/early 20's) who play a very dangerous game called "Chicken". They stand on the railroad tracks. The one who jumps first when the train approaches is considered chicken. :)
