OT ep: Your opinion on Gadgetman
What was your opinion on Gadgetman, the retired superhero in the OT? I always assumed he was some kind of parody of both Inspector Gadget and Adam West Batman.
I did like the way Shredder tricked him into helping him and how the Turtles had to stop a nuclear generator from powering up the Technodrome. It also had one of my favorite Leo/Raph exchanges after Shredder: Shredder: (says something menacing) Leonardo: Well...so are you Shredder! Raphael: "So are you, Shredder?" Please, Leonardo, NEVER leave yourself open like that! |
He also had some Underdog inspiration as well "Gadgetman is here!" He was a typical mid-OT character that shows how much of a self-parody the series is, and actually has a good background origin story, eventually proving that being older doesn't mean you can't be a hero. I thought is was a good episode upon rewatching for the first time in many years a couple years ago.

This ep had some funny lines in it. Gadgetman does remind me of an Inspecter Gadget/Adam West guy, so that's a good comparison.
Here's some of my favorites: Mike: Don't have a cow, man. Raph: Wrong show. *** GM: Surrender or taste the bitterness of defeat! Rocksteady: We taste that all the time! *** After April rescues them from the generator which is about to explode. Don: Good work April! What did u do? April: I unplugged it. Raph: What did u expect, it's a cartoon! *** April: You guys call me if there's a hot story Raph:Or if we need rescuing again... *** After Shredder and Co. jump in the portal. Leo: They got away again! Raph: After 100 episodes you expected something different? *** I also like how this episode showed more of Mike's optimism and willingness to see the good in people. Even though I cannot stand Zach myself, he was more willing to except the "microdude" when the others saw him as a menace at first. Mike was the same with Gadgetman. Mike is a kind soul and is more apt to accept people while the others are more resistant. :tgrin: |
Yeah this was an episode I don't remember liking much as a kid, but found it more enjoyable as an adult.

Yes, but Shredder promised he would be one if he eliminated the evil Mutant turtles that had been a thorn in Shredder's side for so long. :)

The one where Raph said 'never leave yourself open like that' was one time where Shredder tried to lure them into a trap and Leo was like 'do you really think we're that stupid?' |

I have to admit, the first time I saw the episode, I thought Gadgetman was Inspector Gadget himself. I didn't get a chance to pay too much attention in detail for it and I was just a kid. I like Gadgetman. |
I liked that episode, just rewatched it today to refresh my memory. I totally get the Inspector Gadget similarity, but I dont see the adam west batman. If anything it reminds me more of Adam West's "Grey Ghost" character from Batman the Animated Series.
So at the end they give him the job of developing gadgets for the turtles, do we ever see or hear about any of these things in later episodes? I cant seem to remember any such instances. And of course I love the electrical outlet joke. |

And I almost forgot, I laughed out loud when Gadgetman's belt had a "premature gadulation". I need a gif of that... |
this is how I show everyone how much of a geek I am. The actual exchange went like this:
Shredder: You've walked right into my trap! You turtles are so predictable. Leonardo: So are you Shredder! Rapahel:..."so are you Shredder." Leonardo let someone else handle the snappy come backs from now on, ok. |
