Greetings All

Hello everybody, I'll try not to make this too long.

My name's Patrick but even people in my real life call me Raven (or just Rave)
I'm 23 and I've been a huge fan of TMNT since I can remember. This kind of feels like I'm introducing myself to a rehab group.

Anyways, back when I was a kid my parents were more than willing to supply my TMNT addiction but when I became a teenager and the focus of my life shifted I made the decision to donate all my toys (Except my G.I. Joes, kept those for some reason.. wish it would have been my Turtles :( ) to a Christmas toy drive one year at my dads work. Sewer System. Technodrome. Bubble Bomber, tank, sub, van, all 4 cave turtles and their dinos. All 4 big turtles, as well as Bebop/Rocksteady and robot Krang. All of it, gone.

A decision I have grown to regret TERRIBLY.

So, my current girlfriend and I have made a hobby out of scouring the local thrift shops and flea markets for nostalgia from our pasts and of course TMNT was at the top of my list (Right there alongside Biker Mice From Mars and Street Sharks, guess I had a thing for mutant animals as a kid) so I started picking up the loose figures whenever we saw them, which sucks because most of the ones I had as a kid were Leos and Raphys, and now I'm finding the Mikeys and Donnys to match if I would have kept mine.. :(

I guess it was this that led me here, we went to Value Village one day and I found the 1989 van with everything except the swing out door for $2.. There was no way in hell I was going to leave that lol I searched Ebay for a few days with no results turning up at all, whether solo or in a lot of pieces, so I'm assuming the door would be the hardest piece to find?

Anyways, I'm certainly no stranger to the collecting game. My main collection is actually Insane Clown Posse cassettes (Let the hate begin, I know it's a pretty random mix lol) and I've got 15 versions of the same tape for various tiny detail changes like phone numbers, etc. Some are $10 tapes, some are $700+ tapes.. I know this probably doesn't seem worth mentioning but I'd like to learn TMNT figures about as good as I know my ICP stuff..

Is there a section of this site that serves as almost like a guide to point out what the differences are between different pressings of figures? I'd hate to make a jackass out of myself offering $20 on a $200 figure or vice versa. Something with pictures of them carded would be ideal, I have a load of random accessories here I got in a few lots for guys I didn't own as a kid so I'm not sure what goes where.

Also, do you guys do deals over the site? On the message board where I get my ICP stuff if someone new wants to buy something they'll make a "Is so-and-so legit?" post then people who have dealt with them in the past can vouch for them or not.. Do you guys do that here or is there a "Keep it to Ebay" type policy? I'd love to finally track down that damn van door and be able to call it complete.. :P

Welcome Patrick the Raven to the Drome

Zulithe 05-30-2013 03:56 AM

Welcome. I know the feeling... I also made some tragic misjudgements and no longer have any of my childhood TMNT stuff. I'm mostly over it, but sometimes I really miss having it.

You're lucky to have such a cool GF who shares in your nostalgic interests! That's great. Keep her!

Hope you enjoy the board

Thanks for the warm welcomes all. Definitely a welcome change from the flaming the newbies get at the other forums I frequent

That site seems pretty good for finding a ton of spare parts I was wondering about actually, that's awesome.

Is that generally a fair site price-wise? If so, that would be the salt in the already open wounds of giving my childhood collection away :tcry:

Not a problem. Price for the door could vary I suppose, but since you got the rest for $2, you could have a complete party wagon for $17 plus shipping. That's a good deal if its in decent shape. :tthumbsu:

I've never ordered from that site personally, but I plan on getting a few accessories I need to complete some figures in the future.

Hello and welcome to the Drome! :tcool:

There is something I found interesting in your presentation, the same I find in many presentations by other users:

Where do you guys find girlfriends/wives who share your interest and passion for collecting vintage toys and stuff? :twink:

Over here it's pure absurdity :trolleye:

 I just got lucky and scooped up a decent one from my last job, best thing I ever got outta the place.

She didn't have a whole lot as a kid so she gets real nostalgic about the toys and things she used to have whenever she finds them. She was also into collecting TY Beanie Babies when we first started dating, or so she thought lol.. I showed her what collecting something is really about :P I've ordered her loads of bears she'd never seen or heard of from overseas through another collector and took the time to build her a website she can use as a checklist, similar to the one I made for my ICP audio..

When we first met she had roughly half a Rubbermaid tote full.. Now a days... She's got a few more :trazz:
http://i.imgur.com/Ac7iP.jpg

That picture actually doesn't show the 2 she has beside me either, or the ones taking up room in their display cases on my TMNT shelf, so she's not allowed to complain about my collections when hers take up the whole corner of a room! haha

She has full permission however, to complain about the amount of money I waste on them.. I know for a fact I have over 10 Gs invested into my ICP collection (Probably like 7+ in cassette tapes alone..) so she HAAAATES when I see a new tape I need because she KNOWS the Visas about to take a hit

It's cool though cuz she gets legit excited when I find TMNT (or Mario/Sonic) stuff I need and I get the same way when she finds a new TY. I'm kind of a gooney lookin bastard what with my tattoos and such so I imagine I look real clever getting all excited in public when she finds a fluffy new pink TY bunny :P

We're going to be looking into buying a house soon where I'll get my dad to build her 2 massive full wall glass door display cabinets for her TY stuff (as well as another one or two for my turtles!:trazz: )
