more than one 80's version?
 

back when i used to watch tmnt late 80's early 90's i remember that there was two version of the show, one would play monday to friday in the morning and the other was only on saturday mornings i cant remember which one was which but one had a darker tone to it and the art was not so colorful, the other was very colorful and geared more towards kids, more comedy. was this another version of the show or was it a specific season. i also remember the darker one didnt have bebop and rocksteady.

Seasons 8-10 were what fans lovingly call the "Red Sky" seasons. The show got darker, the models changed slightly, and Bebop and Rocksteady make their exit after 8.

but wasnt that near the end of the series, i remember it being earlier but then i again i cant really remember much from that far back

The theme song changes in the middle of Season 4, is that what you're thinking about?

This is a guess, but you could have been watching the show during 1992-1993 when the show was slowly becoming more serious in Season 6 and 7. So on Saturday mornings they would show these slightly more serious, and recent episodes of seasons 6 & 7, but the syndicated episodes during Monday-Friday were showing reruns of previous seasons (2-5) that were lighter and more humorous from the TMNT series. Just a guess...

Not sure what this guy is remembering. If he's not talking about Seasons 8-10 then he probably has false memories from childhood.

Red sky seasons... Probably watching repeats during the week

What's confusing is that what I'm reading is making me think seasons 1-7 compared to the "red sky" seasons. However, I don't think that the earlier seasons were still airing weekdays during the red sky seasons. During seasons 8-10, wasn't Saturday morning the only time TMNT was airing on television?

Most probably, but I'm sure there were some small, local television stations (i.e. not CBS, NBC, FOX, or ABC) still airing TMNT reruns during 1994-1996 ("Red Sky" seasons) in hopes of getting some viewership. So it could also be why aodmisery is claiming two different versions.

You might be thinking of the syndicated episodes vs. the CBS episodes. The CBS episodes have a distinct animation style while the syndicated episodes are all over the map.

Around '95 or '96 USA picked up the series and was airing episodes constantly every day of the week.

The animation for the show was all over the place during Seasons 3 and 4 especially, so I don't understand why this guy thinks it ever completely changed.

It wasn't until Season 6 where the show had that "standard animation" for all its episodes and it continued into Season 7 with that look. Some Season 5 episodes had that look as well but other times (like the Muckman episode) it didn't.

I'm certain that in the fall of 1996, Saturday morning was the only time you could find TMNT on the air. Because it was during the summer of 1996 that I got back into watching action cartoons after about a 4 1/2 to 5 year gap from when I was 10 years old until I was 15. But I found that the TMNT cartoon had transformed (at least in my opinion) from a very bland cartoon into quite possibly the best action cartoon on television.

'96 is when the series ended. I think the USA network run lasted from '93 to maybe sometime in '95. Y'know, the show hasn't been aired in reruns in the US since (to my knowledge). USA network was airing 4 episodes a day: 2 in the morning, like 7am-8am..and 2 in the evening, 6-7pm. I think they had the Cartoon Express on Sunday too. Including the Saturday episode/s, it was something like 24 episodes a week. Overkill.

Actually, what he's talking about sounds very familiar. In my area, older episodes aired during the week all through my high school years (91-95/96, in case anyone's wondering) and new ones on Saturdays later on. So he might have been living in a region that had a similar line-up. Since I didn't start watching until around summer 1990-ish, that would be about right. I managed to catch the entire run that way, in syndicated eps. And the station that aired it here kept them (mostly) in order, too!

Of course there's more than one 80's version: it's called Archie. It simply began by adopting the first seven episodes of the TV show and then spun off to its own storyline. The Random House and Short Stories come close, but aren't in a recognized universe.

It sounds like the OP probably watched right after when the show moved to USA in 1993 when it aired weekday mornings and afternoons, while the Season 7 episodes were airing on CBS.

In Canada on one of the local networks re-runs from the syndicated episodes stopped when season 5 started in 1991. There was a cable channel though that kept airing reruns during the week including episodes from seasons 4 and 5. I didn't have cable in those days so I'm not sure, but I think they kept re-running the first 5 seasons until season 8 started. If you weren't in Canada though, that's not much help.

Archie became it's own universe. But some of these comics are cool.

By Random House, I assume you mean those all-text novels, like Six Guns And Shuriken. Their kids storybooks are all from specific universes. But, what short stories? :tconfuse:

Regardless, the thread-opener was referring to tv only. So, unless you're giving suggestions of what else he might be confusing it with, you probably oughtta start paying more attention. :trazz:
