Why do a lot of mutant villains always come in pairs?

I'm sure we've noticed it:

- Bebop and Rocksteady

- Rahzar and Tokka

- Dogpound and Fishface

- Groundchuck and Dirtbag

The OT even tried to pair up Rat King and Leatherhead a few times.

So I'm wondering, why do you think they always go with a pair of mutants that seem inseparable? Remember Rahzar/Tokka were never seen apart ever in either the movie or the OT, and Groundchuck and Dirtbag were always paired together in the OT as well.

There are of course many solo mutants, but it seems the one in pairs are remembered more, with the exception of Slash. Thoughts?

IDK Pairs just seemed like a universal thing in TMNT.

Federation & Triceratons (granted not togethor foresay)
Mr. Touch & Mr. Go
Hob & Slash (IDW)
And if Nick does this Spiderbytes & Snakeweed

Don't forget the Neutrinos and the Rock Soldiers/Traag.

Because they do :P

It seems to be common with Shredders henchmen, never has he had a single mutant henchman.

With as much as my neice has been watching OT Turtles lately I feel ashamed I forgot such a fact. anther thing is that a Mob boss Pinkie Mcfingers always seem to have a Scientist being use for every scheme. The most memorable is the Narcissitic clone Donatello made of himself.

Nobody seems to have answered the actual question. My thoughts:

Two mutants can watch each other's backs.

One mutant might feel lonely and isolated; a companion mutant would make the first one feel a lot better. Misery loves company after all.

Two people can do things a single person cannot.

Or, Y'know, two mutants are stronger then one, I don't think Shredder cares about their feelings.

4 turtles. It's good to give them more than one dude to fight at a time. Everyone loves a dynamic duo. It's a good way to sell more toys in less episodes. Makes for good dual-boss battles in video games. Gives the bad guys a crutch for humor, as they can have banter between them. There's many reasons. :)

He has the Rat King instead of a scientist in "Donatello's Duplicate".

Of course not, but that's not the point. How would just one of them coped with Krang and Shredder's abuses, and have no shoulder to cry on? A single mutant would have gone mad, committed suicide, or ultimately rebel against his masters.

Bebop and Rocksteady needed each other mostly I think, after there miss ups, Shredder or Krang would get on em, replace them with robots or try to fire them or something. They would have gone made had it been one or the other.

This, totally. So they have someone to banter with and play off of.

Mate it's a tradition now?

I think the question should be why wouldn't Shredder want four mutants to fight the turtles instead of just two? Shouldn't that whole gang have been turned into mutants?

She's kinda paired off with Karai a lot. Karai's not a mutant, but still...

Originally Shredder and Krang had a big bunch of punks-what happened to them, I don't know. When you think about it, though, would they have been able to cope with too many mutants, rather than a pair of relatively harmless idiots?

Someone to bounce off, someone to have banter with, someone to team up with whilst fighting those pesky Turtles, etc.

Also, Shredder as the main villain and having two people flanking him looks and is pretty awesome. :P

Two against two gives a better chance of defeating the enemy. :)
